Batiks, where to buy from Indonesia?

  • Hi Everyone, I am looking to source some modern batiks from Indonesia for t shirts and tote bags. I believe the two main places in Indonesia are Yogyakarta and Pekalongan.     yogya - you can find a lot of kind from T shirt, shirt, bag on any size. from cheap to expensive one from manual print to machine print. manual print usually more expensive. pekalongan - usually famous for machine print batik. solo ( surakarta ) - you can find a lot of batik in this city also. from cheap to expensive. Danarhadi batik and Batik keris are amongst the famous one ( expensive though )

Both are most popular among other cities to find batiks. You can find many qualities of batiks there, from low to high, cheap to very expensive ones. In my opinion, you should go to Yogyakarta first and explore the city and markets such as Pasar Bringhardjo where the mass and cheap batik stalls allover and you can explore all the shops a long Malioboro road. Yogyakarta might be better because of many batik varietes and it also a tourism city. In Pekalongan, you might need a guide to explore all the shops. It's pretty close from Yogyakarta actually (still in the same area of center java). Other city such as Solo also produces many good quality of batiks. You can browse internet first to plan for your trip and which destination you desire to go first.
