  • I will go to bali during 14,15,16,17 April 2009. Which hotel in Ubud should I stay? I want -A unique balinese style -Not too expensive , not too cheap. -Easy to visit tourist spots in Ubud Thanks for your answers

    there are so many great hotels in Ubud that I don't know what to tell you. I have always preferred the hotels along the river valley but some of the ones out in the rice paddies are amazing as well. Prices range from cheap to way up there. The one place I always end up while in Ubud is Murnies Warung. This is a 4 level restaurant bar next to the bridge on the river. Peter runs the bar on level 2 and plays great music. The cocktails are cold and the food is great. I always seem to meet people there that know all about the places that I want to go in SE ASIA. I have found some of my best hide out places from recommendations from people at Murni's So check the internet for your first nights lodging in Ubud and then go wandering around the next day to find something that you fall in love with. By the way. I will be there on the 8th of april and am staying for 2 weeks. But I intend to explore the west coast for hide out spots for at least a week. If you see an old fat guy in Murnies it will probably be me. I'll be drinking the rum and cokes. Just walk up and say Hi Randy. Would that be weird or what? Have fun.

The Casa Luna restaurant in Ubud also has villas and suites. It's owned by an Australian woman called Janet de Neefe and her Balinese husband Ketut. Janet runs the Ubud Writers Festival every October and her book Fragrant Rice tells how she came to fall in love with Bali, Ketut and the culture. She also conducts cooking and culture classes. You must visit the two water palaces which are spectacular, Tahah Lot, the Batur volcano and drive to Candidasa which is my favourite spot. I go three times a year.
