    I have been there and Borobudur temple is recommended place to go. It is in Jogyakarta province, you also can visit Prambanan temple and some other temples nearby. Borobudur temple is the biggest temple in the world and is one of the 7 miracles in the World besides Great Wall in China, etc. From Jogyakarta you also can visit Bali as it is only one hour flight.

I have seen the temple, and while the temple is an interesting structure (there are a number of statues with no heads, and a lot of steep steps), the history of it is facinating. There is a lot of religious meanings in the history of temple, so if you're interested in history and culture, then I'd recommend it. The locals are very nice, and they will offer aid, act as tour guides, etc. The nearest city is Jogjakarta (Jogya), which is quite different from Jakarta. Jogya is much more rural and traditional (we were able to watch some of the dancing and wayang puppet shows there). However, in my opinion, outside of the hotels, it would be harder to get around without understanding the language.
