Do you need a visa to go to Bali?

Does an Australian Citizen need a visa to enter Bali (Indonesia)?

  • I've booked my 1st ever overseas trip to Bali next March, and have just received my passport.... now I need to know if I need a visa to enter Bali? I have read a lot of information about US & UK citizens obtaining a 'Visa on Arrival' and want to know if this is the same for AUS??? Also, We will be staying in Kuta for the duration of our trip... but I really want to experience some of the culture etc of the island (guidebooks can only do so much!) Is there any places in Bali that other visitors might recommend??? Also looking for a really awesome market =D Thanks!!!

  • Answer:

Yes, "visa on arrival" regulation is applied for Australian. Price is USD 25 per person for maximum 30 days visit. You can obtain it in the airport once you land in Bali. Overstay shall be charged USD 20 per day. Overstay more than 30 days (that is 60 days after obtaining VoA) will get a 5 years prison sentence or must pay a fine of IDR 25 million (about USD 2,500). Passport must be valid for a minimum of 6 (six) months as from the date of entry to Indonesia. This wouldn't be a problem for you, as you say you've just got a new passport. Please always bring your passport everywhere you go (or bring a copy and keep the original somewhere safe). Don't put all your money in a same place. In case something happen, you could still have some money in the other wallets/pockets. You also could withdraw your account in the ATM, but int'l withdrawals might get administration charge. Thank you for visiting Indonesia :)

You need to pay $25-$30? US currency (obtain from bank before u leave) in cash when u arrive in Bali. This allows u into the country. I have no idea, but as a tourist destination, I doubt it.

Yes, you can apply visa on arrival at lining up at visa counter near the custom. Just pay US$10 for a 3 day visa or US$25 for a 7 day visa. If more than that, you have to query at the visa counter before you line up to clear the custom to get chop on your Australian Passport. Since is your first trip to Bali from Australia, remember to check your passport for the Indonesian custom chop on your passport before leaving, or else you can't depart successfully and subject to be detain by Indonesian custom officer. As for guide book, like what the above answerer had said. Lonely Planet is the best selling guide book in Asia and they have a book specifically for Bali. Go for it and you may never regret it. You can always ask the locals for places to visit as they are really helpful, so don't worry about it.
