What to see and what to do in Bali?

Best places/things to see in Bali!!?

  • I want to travel to Bali soon and want to know where some great places are to go and great things to see. Of course I want to go over for the party scene but I always want to know the cultural side of Bali. Any ideas??

Hi, I've recently been to Bali and here are a few recommendations... (of course I do not exactly know your interests... some perhaps some of them will not be suitable!). You should do a two centre holiday, spending half of the time in Ubud, the cultural centre of Bali, and the rest of the time at a seaside resort. Choose the seaside resort based on your main interests: if you love to party, go to Kuta. If you like to party, but also want a slightly quieter place, go to Nusa Dua or one of the many other seaside resorts. As I said, Ubud is a must. You can easily spend a few weeks there without getting bored. Here are a few ideas about what to do, apart for the usual things (visiting the market, the art galleries, Monkey forest, etc.) - do one of the many art and crafts classes... there is something for everybody... from ceramic classes, to batik painting to carving. There are classes which last half a day, classes which last several days. - if you like cooking, try your hand at Balinese cooking. It is great fun, and you will be able to prepare Balinese food for your friends once you are back home. - if you like animals, do some volunteering at BARC (http://www.freewebs.com/balidogs/). They rescue mistreated dogs in Bali and they do a great job at it. You can actually volunteer for as little as a few hours or for weeks, it is up to you. You can also choose the kind of work to carry out (care for the animals, reception work, fundraising, etc) and the days / hours you work - hire a bike and go through the rice fields When at the seaside resort, you can laern to dive or to surf and in the evening you can chill out in one of the many bars or nightclubs. Bali is a great place, you will love it!!!

Cin Re's recommendation are very good. But there is so much more to Bali. If you really want to party the Kuta/Legian/Seminyak strip is the place to be. Also you will like the party scene on Gili Trajawan which is a smaller venue but very cool. The temple and the surf spot at Uluwatu is amazing and a great half day trip. The Volcanos are beautiful if you can catch them on a day that is not cloudy. Ubud is the place for culture, the arts, religious ceremony's and dances are outstanding and the shopping is amazing. I might also recommend that you do a morning bike trip. (its almost all down hill and very cool) If you want diving... the Gilis or Amed are tremendous. I do a Bali cheat sheet that is just about cool things and places that I have found over thirty years of going to Bali. It was updated in May so it can be a great help. Its free of course and this is not a commercial thing. Just a helpful guide from someone that spends a month in Bali every year. If you email me I will send one along. [email protected] You are going to have soo much fun!
