Whats the rainy season like in southeast asia?
-
Hi, my family and I are going on a vacation to southeast asia to visit family (laos and thailand) in like a week and a half and since it will be during the months of july and august i understand it is rainy season there. Well i was wondering is the rainy season a down pour of hard rain that will pretty much be everyday, or is it just showers but it will still be summer-like weather such as sunshine and stuff. I love summer and sunshine so i don't want to be miserable there with all the rain. I've been to laos and thailand 3 times already but that was when i was younger and we went during november/december and it was the perfect hot weather there. Ever since i started highschool and my brother entered college, there has been no room in our schedule to go during november and december and we as a family had no choice but to go in the summer (which would be rainy season over there). So does anyone have any knowledge or better yet personal experience of the weather in southeast asia during rainy season and what is it like?

Answer:
You'll see a big different in Laos in July/August. I've been there in both the rainy and the hot/dry season. It doesn't rain constantly - just regularly. And when it rains, it comes down hard. But because it is also hot, things tend to dry up pretty quickly afterwards. I don't think you'll be miserable with all the rain - there will be plenty of sun and warmth too. But you won't get too much blue sky. It tends to be hazy. The upside is that very few tourists travel to the region during the rains. So things are not as expensive for visitors and the whole country feels more natural. I just got back last month from my fifth visit to Laos. Wish I was going back with your family for number six too. Have a great trip!

This time of the year is hot, be assured. The rainfall is normally heavy when the thunderstorm is loud but short like 20-30 max. However, when the thunder rumbles slowly, rain is intermittent and light and can drag for an hour or more. And the showers are welcomed as the heat is humid this time of the year. Good time to come over as it's the fruit season time.

Some of the best weather of the year is during the rainy season. It really depends what part of the monsoon season that you are there some is cool and wet some hot and wet you want to be there when it is cool and wet. Watch the weather maps if you can you want to avoid typhoons or major tropical storms as you can get 3 days or more of non stop rain but most of the time you might get a shower in the morning or afternoon and the rest of the day will be perfect.
