Going to Vietnam this summer, what are some things I should/shouldn't do?
-
I'll be in Ho Chi Minh City for about a month in August and I'm pretty excited to go. However, I have a few concerns about being in a new place. What are some customs that I should be aware of? Are there any social/conversational taboos that I should avoid? Are there any things you would recommend I do while I'm there? Any food you would recommend as well? :P thanks :)

Answer:
something you should be aware of: 1/ the traffics there is very bad, so you really shouldn't try driving by yourself 2/ if you go shopping in small markets, you should ask the sellers to change their prices, 'cause they're usually much higher than the real values. 3/ The Vietnamese people are very friendly but only about 10% of them can speak fluent English, so you should learn some basic Vietnamese sentences before you go there. 4/ Some emergency phone numbers are: 113 for the police, 114 for the fire department, and 115 for the ambulance. 5/ Vietnamese food is considered to be one of the best in the Asia, so you should try as many things as you can, especially Pho, one of the best dishes in the world.

everything the other user answers is true. you should eat at vendors instead of high prices restaurant they are much better because it is homemade. study the map, because taxi drivers will drive you around in curves to make money. negotiate for everything you buy especially in Ben Thanh Market.

Always take care of your bag! Don't wear those stupid handbags Don't wear any jewelleries...cause most Vietnamese use their moped and when they see people who seem to be rich... They take a small dagger and rip the bag of your shoulder... That's what I heard and...yeah..it's true The traffic is a bit...very mixed up cause there don't seem to be any rules...xD But it's so much fun oh...omg...When you want to get from A to B some people might ask you immediately where you want to go.. You know what I mean? Like...you didn't even ask them for a ride on their moped and they just go to you and chat you up. Food....yessssssssssssssss xDDD I love Vietnamese food <3<3<3<3<3 urmm...I don't know what they are called in English pho, banh bao, banh khuc...qua mit You've got to look for yourself The prices for tourists are higher by the way... Have fun =)
