Unbelievably Steep Vietnam Visa Application Fee?
-
Hi All, My spirit literally jolted out of my body when the Consul told me that the visa fee is $77 or Pesos 3,400 here in Manila. He told me that there is a separate agency tasked to vet and investigate applicants and they are the approving and recommending body to the visa issuing agency. The fee may vary by three to five dollars in other embassies but there is no descrimination whether one has USA, Canada, or Australian passport aaplying for a 28-day tourist visa and with no regard to whether this is the peak season for travelling to Vietnam (Tet New Year). Since I can't find any official English language website on the nuances or requisites of their process, I have to go by his word. Processing takes four working days.

Answer:
It is much cheaper online as a visa in advance/on arrival (if you are eligible). Do a search of this branch or use google. Also, this site has been recommended on the TT - I will probably be using it in a few days http://www.funvietnamvisa.com/ or http://www.luckyvietnamvisa.com/ If charges are high in Manilla and you have to use an agency, it is probably a reciprocal thing ie the Phillipines do the same to the Vns. I get the with a Chinese visa in London.

Just get a "visa on arrival letter" from any one of the travel agencies who provide at a nominal cost and then pay the $25/us for a 30 day single entry visa. This is assuming you will be arriving at an international airport in Vietnam. If you are coming overland you must have a visa prior to arrival at the border

If you FLY from overseas to Vietnam, get a visa on arrival at the airport (impossible if you enter Vietnam by ground transportation). You need a letter of invitation from Immigration, which you present on arrival at Immigration, and they give you a 30-day visa for $25.

I applied for VOA letter and it was all processed in less than 16 hours for $10 , plus i pay $25 on arrival at Saigon airport.

you may try to get a visa once you arrive in viet nam..you can do that at ha noi or sai gon airports i know..at least if you are an american you can..ive done it 2-3 times its about $25us... you'll have to have a filled application with you when you arrive[get that from v.n.consul... anyway if you have to pay the 77 dollars dont be to sad , once you get to viet nam everything can be obtained very cheap , food [1-5dollars per meal], lodging [4-15 dollars a night], transportation [ dollars can get you a 4-5 hr bus ride]..that is if you are willing to stay in cheap hotel or hostels, eat "street foods" and travel mostly by viet namese inter-city buses...
