Overstaying a visa In France?

Overstaying Vietnam visa (fine?)?

  • Hi all, Entered the country two months ago at Hanoi airport. Have since travelled down to Ho Chi Minh. After my first visa ran out, I got a one month extension. Now as my second visa started running out I went to extend it again. However this time, I've been told I can't extend it, as I entered the country through Hanoi and not Ho Chi Minh. Apparently I now have to go to Cambodia and come back to get another visa extension though this will end up costing a fair bit I'd imagine (visa into Cambodia = $25 + travelling there) - Also does anyone know if you can do a visa run to Cambodia in one day or whether it takes a while to get a Vietnamese visa in Cambodia (further, can you get a Vietnamese visa at the Cambodian border?) The alternative, is I'm flying to the Philippines in three weeks time (before returning to Vietnam). Would it be possible to pay some sort of fine for overstaying my visa (by about 3 weeks), when leaving the country to fly to the Philippines? Any advice welcome. Thanks all.

  • Answer:

I'm sure if you paid a big enough fine they would eventually let you leave Vietnam. The real question is, would they let you come back? It'll be cheaper to make a visa run to Cambodia, and you won't need to worry about being baned from re-entry.
