Answer:
Huananduong, good answer. The ''under the table'' money is the biggest part of the Vietnamese economy and everyone allows for it. That's if they want to stay in business of course. I have not seen anyone from my extended Vietnamese family walk away from a doctors office without a sackfull of tablets for even the most mildest ailment. But we are being unfair to the medical profession. Because its not just the medical profession that's corrupt, its the entire country. When you get down to village level and see who owns what and then compare assets to income you don't have to be Einstein to work out what going on and its not like they try and hide it. Its going on from one end of the country to the other and there's not a thing the government can do about it. You know the old saying "The King's rule stops at the village gate." Anyway back to the question. I knew a Viet Doctor who worked for a well known foreign clinic 5 year ago. Her salary was $1600 U.S. a month. I also knew her foreign paymaster.

Yes, the salary is just about 100$/month but the other income can be $1000 to $2000/month. The everage income of vietnamese is just about $900/person/year, so you know the amount of $1000 or $2000 is something really big here. But how they can get that amount when salary is just $100?. The answer is that undertable money - but why. In vietnam, if you don't give doctor undertable money, you will have to wait, wait so long long to be examined and cure. And doctor make money by cooperate with the medicine-shop, they will tell patients to come there to buy medicine with hight price, so they get the commission there. Another way to get high salary in vietnam up to $2000/month is to work for a foreign's invested hospital in Vietnam like: Vietnam-France hospital and ... Good luck with your choice!
