Did i need a transit visa?

Do i really need a transit visa for travel from EU country to Bangkok via london?

  • My current status is i'm Thai and hold a permanent residence card (type D) for Denmark, and need to travel back to Thailand via london. WorldBridge has answered me that i might exempt from the Direct Airside Transit Visa (DATV) - a valid common format Category D visa for entry to an EEA State; However Do i still have no need for the transit visa??? if i need to: - pick up my luggages at London heathrow terminal 3 (since i may not be able to check my luggages direct from Copenhagen to Bangkok), in case of this, do i need to get through UK immigration? - do the normal check-in procedure with Thaiair at Heathrow also terminal 3.. - i have 3 hours to do that - how's about on the way back from Bangkok to Copenhagen, will TG allows me to check-in without transit visa?? So confusing with all the answers from airlines(TG and SAS), also world bridge does not give any concret answers at all.

  • Answer:

WorldBridge as usual provides confusing information. 1. Citizens of Thailand do not need a Direct Airside Transit Visa. 2. You do not hold a Category D visa but a valid common format residence permit issued by an EEA State pursuant to Council Regulation (EC) No. 1030/2002 Anyhow, based on your passport of Thailand and your Danish residence card you may transit without visa as long as you: • continue your travel within 24 hours • hold a flight ticket with confirmed seat reservation • hold all documents required for your next destination • have no purpose in entering the United Kingdom other than to pass through in transit - you will need to get through U.K. immigration before you can pick-up your luggage - Thai Airways check in is at terminal 3 - the transit without visa also applies for travelling back, since your Danish residence card provides proof of being able to enter Denmark http://www.ukvisas.gov.uk/en/howtoapply/infs/inf20transit#Q6 .. http://www.timaticweb.com/cgi-bin/tim_website_client.cgi?SpecData=1&VISA=&HEALTH=&page=both&NA=TH&AR=DK&TR=GB&DE=TH&VT=DK&EM=DK&PASSTYPES=PASS&user=SKYWEB&subuser=SKYWEB1 ..

GP deserves the 10 Points. I cannot see a problem as you have Dannish residency which is part of the EU. You should have enough time to pick up your luggage from terminal and then proceed to terminal 3 for Thai flight but I suggest you do that straight away as security at Heathrow is very Tight and can take time but 3 hours will be enough for you to make connection.

eastglam has the best answer, definitely the one I'd go for in your circumstances.....all this EU stuff would be ok except the UK isn't signed up to Schengen so that could throw a spanner in the works....other than that just show up,they keep letting simon cowell back in

The definitive answer would be available from the British Embassy in Copenhagen. Why not ring the visa section and ask.
