  • Answer:

Most of these Katoyes or as you say transsexuals are very nice people other then those in the sex trade. I have meet many of them and they are very nice and kind people. They are accepted here which is why you see more of them here then you see in the west where it is still not acceptable or socially correct. Many of them work in department stores and are very helpful.

You wont see as many trannies as you seem to think. I don't know of any western "trannies" , coming here,, Basically Thai Budhist culture is much less judgmental than western christian or Muslim nations "Your soul wont burn in hell" for example "trannies" are a part of Thailand and don't have to hide their feelings for fear of others disapproval. The fact that "trannies" get mentioned by people from the west is because of this judgmental attitude. Please don't let it bother you, and enjoy your visit here. Amazing Thailand

the country is poor and presents little opportunity to be well off. only the northern territories and the city do well. it doesn't help the fact that soldiers and tourists around the world have influenced and participated in hooking up with prostitutes. therefore seeing how much money these people had they want for a better life. so not many thai women want to be stuck in poverty. and they look for tourist to take them away.

Because they're more accepted there than they are elsewhere in the world. In Thailand they're everywhere and often its hard to tell the "ladyboys," as they call them here, apart from actual girls. They'll basically leave you alone and act like just like any other people. The one exception, or so I''ve heard, is that men who go into certain areas of the city that are frequented by prostitutes are often harassed by ladyboys. Having not been in such areas myself I can't say for certain that this is true, but that is what I have often heard. They're nothing to be afraid of, they're just people, and Thailand is for the most part a wonderful place to go.

Phillipines is also same. It is all because of the Government's policy not to interfere in the life of Transsexuals.

the fact is that christianity and islam are hate based religions. They tell their children that trannies are sacrilige. Trannies are at constant risk of beatings in western and mideast countries.

The very use of the word 'trannie's is derogatory, so it shows your frame of reference. I'm not saying you're biased or have anything against them, but it is a tell-tale sign of the societal views that most of the Western world has against transgenders. Thailand has a tolerant buddhist society and ancient values that have incorporated transgender throughout their religion and culture. For the most part, katoeys (as they are called in passa Thai), are just another facet of society and in general are left alone and treated as any other person. They are often viewed as a source of laughter and entertainment due to their naturally boisterous ways and despite common perceptions, the vast majority (95%+) do not work in the sex trade. Discrmination is still prevalent in Thailand, so unfortunately you won't see many in the ranks of high society, but there are katoeys everwhere working as doctors, lawyers, and businesspeople. However due to this discrmination many are forced to work in lower ranking jobs like retail, hair stylists, make-up artists, and such despite having a college degree from even decent universities. Some, due to poverty, end up working as prositutes. However, that is just a small slice of the populace and should not be reflective of katoeys as a whole.
