How much cash do you carry around on a normal day?

How much cash is enough for 7 day trip to Bangkok, should I carry cash GBP or debit card works?

  • I have already paid for and sorted accomodation, how much should I expect to spend for food, travel, sightseeing etc.? Asking because I intend to get enough Bhats exchanged for GBP from Airport as I think my credit card companies may charge a lot if I use them in foreign country. Can I pay for Bhat at airport with my debit card!? Any helpful tips very welcome, I am a bit of xenophobe when it comes to travelling to "exotic" places,,,

You can take cash and an ATM card. You can use a debit card to take money out of an ATM. Make sure you notify your bank before you leave home that you will be over in Thailand. Without telling your bank that you are overseas your ATM withdrawal may be denied. There may be charges for ATM withdrawal and charges if you go to a bank and get Thai BAHT from a live teller. ATM rates are pretty good. There are bank money changers at the airport which can take cash and travelers checks. There are ATM's at the airport too! You don't have to get all of your Thai baht on your first day. There are lots and lots of banks and mini banks all over Bangkok and in major cities. Do you normally eat in expensive places and use expensive transportation? You can get some budget meals from street vendors, food courts in malls and even from restaurants in some supermarkets (like Foodland, Tops and some newer Villa Markets.) Lots of private restaurants at various prices. Some hotels have "all you can eat" meals. Not everyone spends money at the same rate. Tours from local travel agents in Bangkok will probably run from around 350 baht to 1400 baht depending on what you choose. Tour companies will pick you up at your hotel and return you there. Some travelers think they can save money by going to these places on their own using public transportation and paying their own entrance fees. If you have a hotel near the Skytrain you will save money on taxi rides. If you use a taxi in Bangkok only pay the meter fare when in the city. Don't over tip! Get small bills at the airport to pay for taxi rides, they may claim to not have enough change for even a 500 baht note. Roughly, for a daily budget figure on having available at least the same amount of money you would use back home in your own capital city. Having the debit card available will fill in any extra money you might need. If you spend less than you anticipate you can change your Thai baht back to your home currency at the airport when you fly home. Use cash for cheap purchases in restaurants and in shops to cut down on any potential credit/debit card fraud. Have a nice trip.

Bring your ATM card and don't worry about cash. Just be sure your bank knows your going overseas so they don't lock your card when you try to make a withdrawal. This way you don't have to worry about carrying and exchanging money.

well, when you are travelling to a place like Bangkok, you have to take into account some economic factors that are relatively overlooked when at home. For example, if i was travelling to bangkok there is a good chance that i would want to do drugs and have sex with local women. A fair estimate on how much money you should allocate to such expenses is to take 7) the number of days, multiply it by the average amount you would spend on such items to get the total expense you should allocate. Once you know how much those expenses "should" be multiply it by three and bring that much money. trust me you wont regret it and i guess you should buy food and stuff too... account for that as well

Thailand payment system works pretty much like the British system, so Cash, credit, debit, TC all work. Visa, Master, Amex, Dinner, Cirrus, Plus, Maestro all work with different network. Carry some cash, convert a small portion on arrival at the airport to Thai baht for taxi & small things. Uses of credit card are common, debit isn't but lots of places accept them. Visa, Master work best. On how much is depending on what you expect to do. I think for me GBP 300 quid/day is good including hotel and other things. Have fun.

If you joined in a group tour already, i think the expense of your food and transportation. If not, I suggested you use sky train or MRT in transit between place to place in order to save cost (Maximum cost around 50 Baht) For food if you still love to eat your native food like you are in UK, it will be more expensive as the resturant will charge a lot. So, I suggested to eat Thai food... For more info...

Prompt

Bring a small amount of cash to exchange at the airport and then just use your bank atm card.
