Answer:
Hi I never really went to Chiang Rai till JUST 3 days ago - we rented a van a do that so i can answer your question well . Rent a van or car depending on how many there are of you and get a driver also ( only 200 Baht more ) We went like this - 1Stop over at a Sadoi saket Hot spring , then 2 White temple-Wat Rong Khun ( must see ) 3 To a hill tribe centre with 5 hill tribes in them including long neck ( near chiang rai NEW airport ) . Very nice ! 4Doi Tung - King's sister's Park - great if you like vast array of flowers 5 Phratat Doi Tung - Temple near Doi Tung- nice Leave EARLY - 6am but you will return at 8 pm so prepare to get tired . Agree on itenary at time of booking Cheers

I have taken the one day trip up to Chiang Rai a couple times, I liked it and the people I was with liked it. (I also like long bus rides to small towns and villages for the heck of it, guess I am karazy!) Like you said, there is a stop for a short visit to Chiang Rai (those tourists who need a passport border stamp used to be able to do it at this Chiang Rai stop.) We also stopped at the "Golden Triangle"area too. A visit to the Long Neck village was okay. On one trip we could take a short boat ride over to an island and see a different village which sold "snake wine" to everyone. Tour company picked you up at your hotel and returned you there at the end of the trip. Bring sunscreen, toilet paper and probably a hat to keep the sun off of your face. You have already rode elephants. Good luck.

we done the Chiang Rai trip when we stayed in Chiang Mai. Even had a long tail boat ride across the river to have a coffee in Laos. I would recommend it but you are going to be tired fitting all your itinerary in. Good luck
