Do you know how long is the Toefl last?

Anyone know for sure if the TOEFL English Teaching Certificate is valid to teach English in Thailand?

  • Wanting to add another Bow to my string and was assured by TOEFL a US company that this Certificate would allow me to teach English in Thailand. Already had CRB check done so now worries there and qualify to Live In Thailand already.

  • Answer:

Virtually anyone who has a university degree and TEFL Certificate can teach in Thailand although it is also true that a lack of qualifications has never stopped anyone to get a teaching job there. Ideally you should be in the country to find work so get the for the start of the school year and start investigating local schools to see who needs a teacher.

Hey Scottie - that is certainly one of the steps toward getting in with a decent school and I think even a requirement for most. I would assume that the best info is available on ajarn.com - Up in the countryside, the pay is not great, but the need is - the kids are great and though not a teacher, the Thai teachers sometimes come to my house and drag me in to help out. Many of the foreign teachers here are German and have awful accents, some barely able tospeak English - but the Thai would not know this because they can't speak either!!! - So, you should come up here and straighten out this mess, so I can have some time off to solve other problems, like hunger, flooding and world peace.

Most English teaching jobs also require a degree. Plus there a some new teaching regulations that are supposed to be for testing teachers abilities.

Having the TOEFL certificate will certainly help you to find a English teaching job in Thailand, however many schools require teachers to also have a degree. If you do not have a degree it is still possible to find a job as an English teacher, however it may be slightly harder and more of a challenging process if you are not in possession of a degree. A friend of mine teaches in Krabi and doesn't have a degree, however they don't support her visa and do not provide her food, accommodation, etc. If you work for a major English school, they should help you with your visa, provide you with accommodation and give you a food allowance - however, the vast majority of the major schools require all teachers to have a degree. If you do not have a degree, then your best bet would be to approach the English schools in person - if you come across as intelligent, smart and keen then you may be in for a chance. If you have a degree, you can start applying for jobs straight away online. www.ajarn.com has some useful tips and advice. Good Luck

That is one of those requirements. However, you must speak English slowly and clearly to be really qualified. For more detailed information, please read this article carefully: http://www.stickmanbangkok.com/teaching.html
