Whats the best easiest way to gain permanent residency in phuket?

  • i have seen the many different visa options etc but what would you consider to be the easiest (and legal) way to live in phuket. this place is paradise. im going to go home and save money and make it my goal to come back for good. im 26yo male. chef. am able to get a invitation letter from the muay thai camp where i train that can earn me a year visa. was thinking i could start a business or perhaps do some security work at a club or something. maybe even volunteering for the thai tourist police could gain me some kind of visa?

  • Answer:

Getting permanent residency is very hard, you 1st have to already have been living in Thailand for the past three years, have 191,400 baht ready if they choose you. And know they only choose 100 applicants per nationality per year. http://www.thaivisa.com/300.0.html Starting a business in your own name is also very difficult and you can't work as a security guard. You might get work as a chef ("im 26yo male. chef. "). Or after your muay thai visa runs out sign up with a language school that offers a one year ED visa and keep doing that every year. But if you are a US citizen and stay too long in Thailand without paying into the social security system you'll get next to nothing when you are old.

There is no easy way - it is a long and expensive process and there is virtually no benefit from permanent residency. You cannot do service or labor jobs, they are prohibited to foreigners, so security work at a club would be illegal. Starting a business is to start on the road to ruin since all systems are designed to fleece foreigners. If you want to stay long term then the opportunity you mentioned at the Muay Thai camp is probably your best bet. Watch your money carefully and don't invest since you will almost certainly get scammed. Volunteering won't get you a visa, just get you laughed at by other expats.

Permanent Residency is a long and costly process that takes years. However, you seem to have done some research into visas. Best way for you to get a visa is to marry a Thai girl and apply for a spousal visa. But be sure you can meet the money requirements.
