How much does it cost to make a Thai visa run on your own?

  • How much would it cost to make a visa run on one's own? I've been using a visa run service for a couple of months now, but am thinking of saving money. How much does a journey by train from Bangkok to the Cambodian and Laotian borders cost? How much does the actual 60-day tourist visa cost? Does it take much longer to make the visa run by train than with a visa run service?

    Assuming that your nationality doesnt require a visa to enter Malaysia, you can do a visa run by train to Malaysia and back to Thailand. The ticket in 2nd class costs about US$10. However, the journey takes almost a day between the Butterworth terminal in Malaysia and Bangkok.

Well first there are no trains that goes to the cambodian border. Second, if you took a bus you need to take at least two different buses to get to the camodian border. Third, you can take a train to NongKai then a bus, but if your in Bangkok don't you think that would cost more. A Tourist Visa cost about 1900 baht for 60 days and then you can request an additional 30 days at immigrations.

The fact that you say that you've been using "a visa run service for a couple of months now" indicates that you may have entered Thailand on a 30 day visa exemption and have already made two visa runs. You may not be eligible for any more "visa runs." If you've been here for 90 days within a six month period and originally entered Thailand on a 30 visa exemption you may have to leave Thailand for at least 3 months before you're allowed to return or I believe (not sure) you can apply for a 60 day tourist visa at an embassy outside of Thailand or in your home country.
