What are the socio-cultural impacts on medical tourism in Thailand?

    I don't think there are any cultural impacts on MT - do you mean OF MT ? - Even that, not much that I can see - sometimes you will see some sheik walking through the hospital followed by veiled ladies - but I guess it adds ever so slightly to an already booming tourist industry.

It would really have no impact on the socio-cultural of Thailand except it will bring more money and tourist to the country. It would not effect the shortage of doctors in rural areas either, because these doctors who are highly trained would not practice in rural areas of the country they would remain in the big cities where the money is.

A guy goes into a hospital in Bangkok and walks out a woman! Could be a big deal back in his little rural village or back in his own country if he is a tourist! What passport will he travel under will it be the one where he is a guy? What toilet will he/she use? Who gives him/her the pat down? What will the new X-Ray machine at the airport show? He/she could have manufactured a means to make lots of money in the sex trade thereby improving the lot of his family - maybe! Visit Bumrungrad Hospital, it is like a meeting at the United Nations! All sorts of nationalities brought together there for various reasons. Bumrungrad makes lots of money with medical and dental services. Adding boobs or penises to tourists, nose jobs, eye lid lifts, tummy tucks and other cosmetic surgeries makes Bumrungrad and other similar hospitals lots of money - thereby employing many Thai citizens!
