Which is the cheapest island in Thailand to stay around the southern tip?

  • Hi guys, me and my boyfriend are travelling to Thailand in 4 weeks time. We are flying to Bangkok then from Bangkok to Trang on the express train (i think). We would like to stay on an island preferably but not sure which is best money wise. We'd love to stay in Koh Lanta but have been told it can be quite pricey. We want to be around Krabi, Phi Phi area. We want to stay in a beach hut too as my partner has been to thailand before and says you can rent out beach huts for as little as £4 a night in some places! Does anyone have any idea of where is best to stay around here, cheap, pretty, quiet, but with also excursions maybe? Any info from experience or knowledge would be great thank you!

    we stayed in Bang Bao, Koh Chang...a little fishing village and we stayed in sea huts actually in the sea - prices were very reasonable and it was handy as there are boats there to take you to the other islands. really peaceful here too....in fact, they had a man with a speedboat who would take you over to a small beach which was very uncrowded and untouristy. http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g580110-d1014241-Reviews-Bang_Bao_Sea_Hut-Koh_Chang.html - i have a review on this site with a photo too...maybe have a look.

A nice place on Lanta about half way down the island is where else bungalows and close to Phi Phi and Krabi too. Lovely people and food and even lovely dogs! edit- how could i possibly get 2 thumbs down for such an honest and straightforward answer while the answer about koh chang which is nowhere near phi phi or krabi gets two thumbs up? shows how little some people know.
