Answer:
It will take you years to get residence in Thailand and forget about citizenship, people born here can't get it unless you know how to fly a paper airplane in the air for over a minute. The only thing you can do is apply for a marriage visa and extend it every year. You need to show you have 400,000 baht in a Thai bank each year as one of the requirements. Check the Thai Embassy website in your country for information on applying for a visa to Thailand.

How old are you Abel? If you are over 50 (and have sufficient verifiable funds) a Retirement Visa might be your best bet. There are thousands of expats living in Thailand but I don't think any of them ever qualified for Thai citizenship unless it was some special deal that came from the king. You can consult some local Thai lawyers and see if they have some loopholes; are you on a pension and disabled? Maybe get married sooner?? http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/Marriage-Visa-Decision-t374372.html&p=3683021&hl=marriage+visa&fromsearch=1#entry3683021 Additional info from the Thai Visa Forum you where you might be able to get some more ideas: http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/Thai-visas-residency-work-permits-f1.html http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/Re-8000000-Baht-In-Thai-t374132.html&p=3682040&hl=retirement+visa&fromsearch=1#entry3682040 Good luck.

It seems you are just looking for a place to go to get out of Mexico. Just a few months ago all of your questions were about the requirements to marry your Pinay girlfriend and about buying a house in Cebu.

First of all, it is very rare that a foreigner will be granted citizenship for Thailand; the only way you would get it is if you got some special recognition from the King and he granted it to you. Secondly, as a foreigner wanting to live in Thailand, you need to realize that you cannot work and that there are many restrictions in place for foreigners. For example if you owned a business or a property, you would only be allowed to own 49% of it and you would need a work permit even to work in your own business. Your profile says that you are 22 years old. There are very few people of your age who are able to live and survive in Thailand it can be hard enough as a foreigner, let alone at such a young age. The most practical thing to do would be for your Thai lady to stay with you in Mexico, unless you have got a large sum of money in your bank account and are prepared to renew your marriage visa annually, provided you meet the requirements. Good luck amigo

Just a thought: Getting a Thai citizenship will earn you rights; like buying land, living in Thailand without having to worry about visa, choosing the prime minister buy voting, etc.. It also comes with certain duties, like being drafted into the army and fight the red shirt guards in Lumpini Park with M 16 against M 79. I've seen pictures of them losing an arm. Thai men have to serve until 35 (being in reserve).

Citizen ship. Not possible,. If you are over 50 and have a marriage cert you can get a type "O" visa renewable every 15 months, ( It;s actually a 12 month visa but you can make it last 15 months ). For a Retirement Visa You need either 800000 Thai baht in a bank for at least 3 months OR an income of 65000 / month OR a combination of both. IE if you have only about 30000 / month you would need enough in the bank to make up the required amount. If you are under 50 you will have problem staying here long time.

They have not given out citizenships for over 3 years even if you met the criteria. Have you ever lived in Thailand? Staying on a beach and working here is MUCH different. You have a better chance of living in Singapore.

I think we helped you with your Filipino girl friend. Now it's Thai. Unless you can make up your mind as to whether you want to marry a Filipino or a Thai, there is precious little we can do to help. Oh, I thought of something more sinister - that you're a sex tourist! Just tell us you aren't and come back here for help.

Gaining Thai citizenship seems an almost insurmountable task. The process is daunting; long, convoluted and frustrating. But for someone planning a lifetime in Thailand, it can be rewarding. Recommended don't waste time and look for alternative.
