How much would it be to get a train ticket on the day?

Can I get an on day train ticket from bangkok to Koh samui?

  • Answer:

It is possible, but trains get full quick in Thailand, especially when there is a public holiday. I would not gamble on taking a train on the same day. Better try to get the tickets in advance.

Yes you can although the night train is more relaxing. You can buy a combined rail/ bus transfer/ferry ticket at Hualamphong station in Bangkok since the train takes you to Surat Thani not the ferry terminal. Details here: Train Number 43 DRC: Depart 08:05 arrive Koh Samui 19:30. With a connection to Koh Phangan if required. Train Number 85 Express/Rapid: Depart 19:30 arrive Koh Samui 09:30. Onward connection to Koh Phangan is also available. The combination ticket costs 1118 Baht using the 2nd class air-conditioned sleeper service on the overnight train(recommended) or 750 Baht using the daytime service. Total journey time Bangkok to Koh Samui is between 11.5 hours and 13 hours. Travellers continuing to Koh Phangan should add 100 Baht to the quoted prices.
