  • I am 35y/f Indian Kindergartenteacher with B.A(Eng)degree.Do I stand a chance to get teacher job in Thailand? I am an Anglo-Indian and I have 12 years experience in teaching Nursery/ Primary and at present working in an International School with ICGSE curriculum. If I get a job what would be my minimum pay?

  • Answer:

30,000 baht Excuse me Mr James wanna be Bond, I think you need to learn something about Thailand and stop making a fool of yourself. A teacher with her educational experience is not going to learn less then 30,000. Don't use your GED educated friends who teach here as examples.

Why is Thailand so popular as a place to go and live? Does not really answer your question I know but I am curious.

Why would you want to go there and earn peanuts ?? English teachers get paid very poorly. Best you go to a developed country.

Post your CV on ajarn. Whoever told you that your minimum pay would be 30,000 is on crack. I know farangs who earn less than that teaching. To the one who said to go to a developed country to teach... Somebody having a hard time finding work in Thailand as a teacher would have NO chance to be a teacher in a developed country. Anyway, post your CV on Ajarn, and respond to ALL the ads that interest you. Its not difficult, but it would require more than just putting a CV up and forgetting about it. Type up a cover letter saying what you have just said in your question as to what your qualifications are. look at and reply to ALL the ads you qualify for, and even some you don't. Spend about an hour a day at it, and you should have a job lined up in a week or two. Right now is the best time to get a job. All the companies are starting to interview and staff for the next term. Schools should be getting out for their break mid to late feb, and most schools/ agencies want to be staffed for the next semester fairly quickly. As far as pay goes, 15,000 to 20,000 would be the low end of the pay scale for you. The high end would be about 30,000.

Truthfully your nationality will hamper your application for the teaching post. No matter what your qualifications. If you really do insist, then write to the international schools there for the post.

I have had 4 Indian friends teaching in Thailand. They don't teach English but other subjects such as Science, PE and Maths. They had heavy accents so teaching English was out. On average they got 15-20,000 Baht a month. If you can teach Science or Maths you could make 20,000 per month if you pushed your luck since you have never taught in Thailand before. Those are the subjects in demand that they struggle to fill. You could teach at a university and you would average out 25,000 a month, lower teaching hours too. You will not know what the market is until you get here.
