Cost of food and drink in Phuket, Thailand?

  • Hi I'm going on holiday to Phuket, Thailand later this year. Can anybody advise me as to the approximate cost of things like food, drink and trips (if possible quote in English pounds £) Many thanks

  • Answer:

I'm working on 50 Baht to a £ Can of coke 40p Street thai food £1 Restaurant thai food £2 Restaurant western food £2 - £10 330ml bottle of beer from a shop £1 330ml beer from a bar £2 cigarettes - £1.50 1.5L water - 30p Trips vary greatly depending on what you want to do. Motorbikes are generally £2-£4 a day to rent. A £20 package deal sounds reasonable. Eat thai and you'll have yourself a bargain... Cos the beer will cost you in the end :)

Street food is very reasonable - after that Phuket is built for tourists - Thai people go there to make a living - they get what they can and Phuket has become one of the most expensive parts of the country...

Phuket City has some of the most delicious local cuisine in Thailand. There are a couple of excellent vegetarian restaurants, KANOM JEEN (a kind of Thai spaghetti with many fixings dish) restaurants, a couple of good Chinese restaurants, some good local places near the town square, and lots of delicious market food scattered about. Near the airport there is a great market where you can sample all kinds of wonderful food. In the tourist areas, what Spanky said. Still, by international standards, not so bad. In the foreign-tourist areas, 2 - 5 quid for a meal not including drinks. In the non-foreign-tourist areas, 1 - 2 quid. For a large beer, 2 - 2.5 quid in the FT areas, 1.25 - 2 quid in the NFT areas. Local transportation (SONGTAEW, which are covered pick-up trucks with seats) is very cheap, and they go to a lot of places, but they stop running in the late afternoon, strangely. Trips vary in price, but are reasonable by international standards. I could be a bit off about the prices since I haven't been there for 3 years.

If you are going to eat off the street vendors , its very cheap just be careful as some of the uncooked food has been sitting around for a few hours in the heat and may give you the runs. Food is probably the cheapest thing about phuket and almost not worth considering.
