Can a Black girl be an actress in Thailand?

  • I love Thai culture and I want to star in a Lakorn or be a TV host or a model. My grandma is Thai and my mom is half thai. Both were born in Thailand. But I have no thai features sadly, except I have long hair? Whoever lives in Thailand.. Do you think it's possible? Yes, I know I must have talent. But I'm trying to see if it's possible for me first.

    I was born and raised in Bangkok, Thailand and I'd say NO. Women in Thailand try to get their skin to be as white as cotton, so it's really hard to get into entertaining industry with a dark skin. I am not being racist. I have a dark skin too and spent most of my childhood going to a spa tried to do whtever i could just to make it lighter. if you are sure that u have the talent(plus big buck) and speak Thai fluently, please give it a try!

I suppose it is possible but I have never ever seen a black woman cast in any Thai TV show of any kind. The only time black women appear on Thai TV is in the news or when there is coverage of international beauty pageants.

yes, if you are black with light skin but if you are not it is possible but it's hard to get a main role I've ever seen black people in Lakorn and they are supporting role for example black kid in international school ,traveler , Villain(for guy)

Long hair is not a Thai feature - - You might overcome not looking Thai by writing your own script and creating the part for yourself - anything is possible w/talent and luck -

Yes, any talented, beautiful lady would be successful as an actress in Thailand. I am not sure how much you would earn. Wages in Asia are low compared to Western countries.

I really have no idea how one become an actress in Thailand, or actor for that matter. They just pop up on the screen. There are some cases I know of mostly half Caucasian half Thai, which considered to come out equal to beauty in Thailand, and they usually start off by audition in the modeling agency for advertisement. Some made it to the movie career, some ended up marrying the owner of the products advertising (this I knew of). There are acting school sort of way in universities in Thailand: I think there's one in Chulalongkorn university, although most actors that came from that university studied Architecture (odd, isn't it?) The rest of the actors and actresses in Thailand come from (I don't know where). There are some movies coming out recently said to audition people for casting in their movie, but the ratio might be about 2000 to one. I think Quan Moun Ho (name of the movie: Romantic Comedy) is another one with audition and the actress was quite successful, coming from high school in Thailand.

Anything is possible if you have talent, but if you have little or no knowledge of the Thai language this will disadvantage you significantly. Many pretty / good looking talented Thai's are hungry to get their big break into the acting industry, as a foreigner it'll be so much harder. You'd need to build your contacts up and get networked in order to start off with. If you can afford it, you may be able to bribe/pay your way through - just to get some attention from superior people in the industry. Good Luck.
