What happened to the Air France flight?

  • Answer:

It crashed. If you want speculations, then: A false flight-speed message from iced-up pitot tubes inadvertantly shut-off the autopilot. While attempting to manually control the plane, the pilots became disoriented flying at night in a severe thunderstorm without proper instruments. Lightning strikes aggravated their difficulty (perhaps even causing an electrical fault in the "fly-by-wire" systems). Strong updrafts in the thunderstorm rolled the plane over, without any sense of this by the pilots. The tail blew off in a crash dive, and the plane broke up in flight before it ever hit the water.

The guy above has a really good theory. But mine is better, or at least very entertaining: It was a reindeer strike. Santa was on vacation down near there and was letting them off the old harness for a quick bit of cloud grazing. Wrong place, wrong time. Oops! Yep. If you believe that one, I have a nigerian prince friend who wants to meet you. (Quick apology to any family members.. I am trying to lighten it up, not trying to make anyone feel bad.)
