When does typhoon season start in Taiwan?

starts in june/July and ends in late fall. Last year we didn't get any days off of work in Taipei due to Typhoons! Lets hope this year, we get some days off. I need a vacation! :) You do get warnings like the guy above me said, and the warnings the meteorologists make are pretty accurate. So when a typhoon comes, prepare to hunker down and enjoy a day indoors

late April to early October. You generally get at least 2 days to 1 week of warning and it lasts about 1 day. If you are from a Northern area the best comparison is getting a snow-day off. But you cant make snowforts. You just drink tea and watch TV/ play on the internet/ read the newspaper/ draw/ ect. If the power goes it generally will return within a few minutes (most larger buildings and hotels will have generators as a backup.) Just like most people don't go out in blizzards, typhoons should be respected. Or if you really are foolish you can walk around and get soaked and have tree branches and leaves hit you. Then go and watch the stormsurge and get washed away into the ocean like certain bored Darwin award winners do every big typhoon... You could go drive on a mountain to view scenery and get a mudslide washing you down the 300 foot drop too like other people enjoying their day off from work. And just ignore warnings and go camping too, If you really care to pay for your rescue/ watch your friends get washed off the mountain and lose all your gear like some other 'winners' out there have. It happens every year, you don't want to be the guy who couldn't adapt for 2 or 3 days to a more urban schedule who wins the Darwin award that year. In worst case scenario, 7-11's a plenty exist to serve your food and logistical needs for the short term. Flooding does occur at times (generally in low-lying areas next to rivers or poorly maintained canals) so if your hotel is in one of those you could consider moving to a higher up place on a hill top inside the city. If you stay in the major city areas you will be fine. Interestingly Taipei 101 was designed to withstand extreme forces and has been hit by class 4 and 5 typhoons numerous times now without incident (the cool swinging/counterbalance berm inside is worth a look.) But i wouldn't blame you if you didn't care to go up during a typhoon to see it in action. ;)
