What country is the newest member of United Nations?

Is there a feasible way for Taiwan to become a member country of the United Nations?

  • Is there a feasible way for Taiwan, or the Republic of China, to become a member country of the United Nations?

  • Answer:

At the moment the United Nations does have a one China polity, i.e. that there can only be on seat for "China" it however does not confer that P.R.C has sovereignly rights over Taiwan. For example the USA agrees to P.R.C one China polity but however it does not see that P.R.C has sovereignly rights over China at the moment it opts for the status quo the way things are. For Taiwan to become a member country it has to be voted into it. With the PRC veto vote any attempts will fail, although there are ways to void the veto vote. Its best that you read up the facts yourself raither than suffer from cultural blindness.

Contrary to the statement already posted, "Taiwan" hasn't behaved crazily. The Chinese who came here after WW2 and took over Taiwan did that when they spent 40 years forcing (at gunpoint) their agenda upon the people here. Stop blaming the people of Taiwan for the actions of a greedy and militant immigrant minority which sought "refuge" here on land they didn't own. Fortunately, things have greatly improved since the time of the White Terror, and the ROC government has become more representative of the people living in Taiwan who have strong ancestral ties and interests here. Taiwan has never had a seat at the UN. Other than for a few month's time some 115 years ago, there has never been a country called Taiwan. The Republic of China which controls Taiwan at this time was a founding member of the UN, but a bully called Communist China saw to it that they were thrown out, some 23 years after they had driven the ROC off the Mainland. Amazingly, ten years after that, the PRC laid claim to Taiwan, with no basis in legal terms. It is, however, possible for Taiwan to gain a seat at the UN. It's basically just a simple matter of "paper pushing". 1) The ROC declares war on the USA; or vice-versa. 2) The USA sends a few troops into Taiwan. 3) Officials from both sides sit down to tea, and the ROC surrenders unconditionally; no shots need ever be fired. 4) The USA and representatives of the ROC sign a Peace Treaty, including the following items: a) The ROC government relinquishes its authority over Taiwan (and its surrounding regions) and its residents. b) A new government will be formed, structured along the lines of the existing ROC constitution and under the name Republic of Taiwan (or some such name which does not have the word China in it), only laying claim to Taiwan and its surrounding regions. c) The ROC government officials (with US advisors on hand) are required to stay at their posts until such time as the people elect replacements for them. d) The USA cedes all rights and title which it may have to Taiwan as a result of being the "principal combatant power" in the "war against the ROC" to the citizens of the Republic of Taiwan. 5) The Republic of Taiwan applies for membership in the UN. Bottom line, everyone currently in power stays in power, the rights to the land called Taiwan are in the hands of the people living there, and Taiwan becomes a member of the UN. Conveniently enough, it ends the Chinese Civil War as well, seeing as how there wouldn't be any "Republic of China" left for the PRC to be at war with and overthrow. (Congrats! You won! You can thank your peaceful-minded American ally for assisting you in the victory, and you even have a new country with which you can become an ally instead of an enemy! Your support of this action helps make the PRC look more like a respectable member of the worldwide community. It's a Win-Win-Win scenario.) Basically, its a name change, along with the resolution of the long-standing debate over who owns Taiwan (the people living there own it; it's a little thing called sovereignty, and is even spelled out as being the rights of other people, such as the Taiwanese, by the PRC's own constitution). What's the downside here?

FED UP TO HERE WITH MAINLANDERS!

Firstly , Taiwan has to keep on trying to gain membership. However with the Idiot Ma in charge, it looks unlikely that any effort will be spared for that purpose. According to Today's news, they will not be pushing this subject in the Next General Meeting at the UN. Taiwanese have to get out of their slumber and give the DPP control of the Legislative Yuan.

Ci I have been trying to be nice to you. Don't make statements you know are wrong. You know there are people here who read and know when you say things that are not even close to the truth. I will be nice about this and ask you, the people who you say signed the U N Charter for communist China you understand these names are on the net. Ok I hope you are still with me, on the same page these names are on it list the government they represent and the leaser of this government, you still with me? Check it out, there is not the first name from Communist China or from the mad murder Mao. How can this be if what you say is true? I bet you can figure this one out. If you read a few pages more you will see some names of people who represent China and they are going to sign, but this was many years later and they told the UN that all the things the other government of China had signed they would have to look at take to their country and discuss if the Communist would indead back the treaties and agreements because they did not sign and no other person from Communist China had signed. HMMM now how can this be if what you say is true? I think it would be to your benefit to read about the people who signed the UN Charter, when they signed it and what government they represented. There are a lot of people who read what is wrote here and what you write. You do not want these people to think... well to think you should read more and be better informed. How about I try to keep informed and do not show places you make mistakes and you do the same. Lets all try to be truthful when we answer a question. There are people who want to read what we say and learn something, they do not want to know they are being lied to. As for WNL, his answer to me is a what if answer. But it is a lot better answer than some, it would work. If China's leaders would just grow up and act like adults everybody would be better off.

United Nations is not United nations if it do what one or two country wants.

Seeker

The United Nations has a "One China Policy". The People's Republic of China is recognized by the United Nations as the one and only China. The People's Republic of China is one of the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council.. The fate of Taiwan is up to its own people. They can rejoin China and live normally or they can continue living is a self-made fairy land of political non-existence. No one forced Taiwan to act so crazy, as they did that on their own. If Taiwan wants to rejoin the real world, then they need to open that door on their own.
