What makes Malaysia a great country?

Do you think Singapore would be better of as an SAR of Malaysia rather than a fully independent country?

  • I only can think of the following advantages of Singapore being a Special Administrative Region of Malaysia, like how Hong Kong is an SAR of China: 1) National Service to be reduced to 3 months 2) We will still have Singapore passports and currency, like Hong Kongers do, but immigration policies to Malaysia will be alot less strict. 3) We will still have our own government, laws (including multiracial policies), flag, 5 star airline, etc., like Hong Kong. 4) Natural resources can always be imported from Malaysia without international taxes But of course this is not to say that Singapore would be like when it was still an ordinary state of Malaysia in the 1960s, when trouble was brewing, but like the '2 governments, 1 country policy' which China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan is using now, so that not only we enjoy the advantages of being part of a larger country, but have our own government to lead the city the way residents like it, and that is Singapore being an SAR of Malaysia. What do you think of the idea, and the disadvantages?

  • Answer:

    no

A strict no . At least not yet. This region (especially Malaysia ) needs Singapore to be the "balancer". It is a good thing that Singapore is strong in terms of economy and military. "Balancer" because in Malaysia the gov is still held be malay ultras (umno ) . If without an independent Singapore right after the "May 13th" , Malaysia will ends up like Indonesia . It helps to keep the malay ultras ( umno party ) in check. Now you know why our malay gov hates Lee Kuan Yew?

No way. What you have stated sounds attractive, but no doubt there'll be lots of trouble. Think about it. If we can have so many problems as seperate countries, there's no limit to the problems that we may have being an SAR of Malaysia. Besides, even though our leaders are friendly to each other, the unspoken hostility of mistrust is always there. UMNO will be suspicious of the PAP, and the PAP will criticise the UMNO. The problems are endless.

NO WAY!!! Malaysia and Singapore is vastly different. It didn't work then, It won't work now. This is because the fundamental differences that caused the split is still present! According to your fourth point, back in 1963 when we were part of Malaysia, anything we export to Malaysia is taxed. So your idea will not happen.

Dream on.... I will be the first to object and hold demo in front of Malaysia Parliament. NO WAY! Who wants Singapore anyway. I will suggest to take this idea to China. Since Singapore trying so hard to be Hong Kong .

artawijaya1973

that idea will not work in the first place cos when Mr Lee cry on separation day it also mean he taking out more than 10 % of Malaysia Parliament voters, since Singapore has no voice there then that the only disadvantage for both

Arraaghhhh...!!!

I think if you say so, then Singapore as an Island, should more be a SAR of Indonesia than Malaysia cause all are Islands, more natural resources than Malaysia and more land available for them for free !!! No need to be afraid of lack of sandstone and other building materials anymore Singapore may even more easier to help developed Indonesia some more. As for being an SAR of Malaysia, I think this is not a good idea as Malaysia can only make Singapore chaotic in rule and Singapore may as well become an Muslim state. For this, you only see the surface of HK as an SAR as a very successful one. You haven't seen HK as insider point of view yet.

If Malaysia will agree to Singapore being the Special Administrative Capital of Singapore/Malaysia, i think it will be to the benefit of the 2 countries. Administratively Singapore is stronger than Malaysia. Doesn't make sense for Singapore to be a SAR of Malaysia. For China/HK, China has a lot more clout compared to HK. In any case, HK was never separated from China. HK was on loan to the British government. In Singapore/Malaysia case, these are 2 sovereign countries. Which sovereign country would give up their sovereignty to be part of another country whose political ideology is different? Had HK gained independence from China while under British rule, i doubt they would have gone back to being an SAR of China too.
