Is it illegal to bring non-halal food into Singapore?
-
My friend recently came back from Philippines, with a few hours stop over in Singapore. She was told in Philippines that all the food products she bought that does not have a HALAL sticker on it will not be allowed into Singapore (even if she's not staying there for long). She ended up having to leave all non-halal items behind. Is this true that they have this policy? I really need to know as I will also be travelling through (a few hours) Singapore and do not want to buy items that will end up being confiscated.

Answer:
Any MEAT or MEAT PRODUCTS foods is under control by AVA .( Vari-Food Veterinary ).. IS REGARDLESS TO HALAL OR NON HALAL . http://www.ava.gov.sg/InformationForTravellers/BringFood/ Mose of the MEAT products from Philippines is not allow to carry / bringing to Singapore . even just 100 g. regardless of halal or non halal. is because of " meat ". AVA however, recognises that travellers both from Singapore and overseas, may wish to bring certain food items for personal consumption when they travel. The types of food and amounts that can be brought into Singapore from approved sources without a permit are indicated in the table. These quantities are strictly for personal consumption and not for sale. Travellers must be aware of the risks associated with consuming such food items, which have not undergone checks by AVA. Approved sources may change due to health and safety reasons. http://www.ava.gov.sg/InformationForTravellers/BringFood/ ^^^^ ie . lechon / longganisa / topa / chorizo total not allow. even 100g. few pcs itlog na pula .okay. merieuda / dried mangoes / mangoes / fruit cake / iumpiang sanwa .is allow to carry in. oh ! Philippines fruit cake is nice ! EDIT coffee, 'boy bawang', and durian bars YES YES . you always allow to bringing small quantity by hand carry in to Singapore . with out any problem.

You can bring any food into Singapore as long as they fall within the guidelines of the Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority (AVA). Raw foods are checked thoroughly. I have on several occasions experienced that the officers to not care if the quantity is very small (for personal consumption). Do not bring in 5kg or meat and claim that it is for personal consumption. Our officers are reasonable but strict. Halal or Non-Halal is not important.

no such policy. It's just that no cook food or raw food is allowed in Singapore especially bangus or balut. But if you wish so, do pack it tightly to remain undetected just as I always do. Everytime I came back from Phils, I always pack raw bangus and raw balut. Funny is it not?

No, no such thing, as I had brought food items from China back to Singapore and not being confiscated, as there is no such thing call halal sign or sticker on their food product, so its okay, as long u don't bring in raw food and vegetable.
