Just double check if you want to take a course there. English is the language that unites all the other languages so you should be fine. As for the first answerer, Malay is the national language for historical reasons and the national anthem, but actually there are 4 official languages to recognize that the ethnic groups like to use their language with each other, and English with everyone else. There's Malay, Mandarin Chinese, and of course English. English is of course the most widely spoken and considered the first language for education purposes.

English is the common language in S'pore and Malay is the National Language. We are a bi-lingual country, everyone can speak at least 2 languages or dialects, so communication within is not a problem at all. As for schools, we have language & specific one for all races including foreign ones. We have 3 Universities: NUS, NTU & SMU and the fourth one is coming up soon. All use English as the official one and Mandarin, Tamil, Malay & other foreign languages, also can. We have Japanese, American, Korean, Chinese, Malay & Tamil school and many more. No problem for education for all main races in S'pore. All races are equal and we don't call people Black or White.
