What's it like to live in Singapore?
-
I want to live in Singapore after University. Heard it's a great little place, like Hong Kong. Can you tell me about the pros and cons of residing in Singapore? Thanks in advance.

Answer:
It's expensive unless you eat at hawker centres. Rent is expensive, cars almost impossible, public transport is cheap, taxis used to be cheap but not so much now. Weather is quite good most of the time, especially when it is raining and it gets cooler - sometimes it is too hot to want to do anything until about 6pm when the sun starts to set. Groceries can be cheap or expensive depending what you buy - locally grown food (from Malaysia, Singapore etc) is quite cheap, imported from Australia/USA expensive. The city isn't as clean as it used to be Racism? Some people mention it - it exists of course, but it's not too bad. I've had it happen a couple of times, but it's not as bad as some countries. For some reason, many Singaporeans seem to assume it is non-existent but that's not true - check out the ST forum to find out for yourself http://www.stomp.com.sg/ Crime is low but seems to be on the increase

Singapore is a really nice place to live in. The place here is clean and peaceful. The weather can be a bit hot but it's not really a big problem. I will have to disagree with the above comments. Singapore are not racist while maybe only a small number of them are. I realise that singaporeans dont like indians. Anyway, there are a wide variety of foods here like western, french, malay, indian, chinese, thai etc etc.

i am not really answer you question directly. due to Singapore Governments Immigration and manpower policy, as from 2009 , degree / diploma holder with out minimum 5 years work experience will not get EP even S-PASS.unless you hold some very professionals technical skills. live in Singapore after university the chance is very slim. take 20 min to understand the foreign manpower policy could help you plant for next. http://www.mom.gov.sg/foreign-manpower/Pages/default.aspx liveing in Singapore enjoy the safety clean small city with many " LAW ".money can " buy " every things. but never expect for an executive staff work for 8 hours a day. usually you need to work from 8am to 7pm for 5 day. you spend about 2000 + for housing. car prices is sky high, 1.6 A Toyota cost SGD about 70,000 . but public transport consider okay.foods still cheap.

Agree with B.H.N. Singapore's weather seriously sucks. Sometimes its so hot that you can't tolerate it. And one of the person who answer talk about car, so.... Im gonna tell you that you're gonna pay COE to get a car and COE only last for 10 years! Btw, COE is a certificate of entitlement. A COE for a normal car cost around SGD6000!! And there's quite a number of people here are rude. Living here is kinda alright as long you can stand the heat or else it'll be fine. But the living expenses here is quite expensive.

If you are caucasian..then Singaporeans will pray you everyday. If you have dark or brown skin...you will die in Singapore because of the racism here.

Too many Asians not enough Caucasians.
