  look at wikipedia, but the best way to travel, is to plan out the places you want to see, and take the train, stay at hostels, lonley planet would have info on places to stay, but you can find a place outside every train station. china is cheap and you can save a ton of money planing it yourself, tour groups are a scam, and your dont really get to see china, you get a glance. Take your time visiting china, and come with an open mind and heart.
