To relocate to Singapore, is a job offer/work permit the only secure way without being in between jobs?
-
As far as I have learnt people move to Singapore either by migrating with a start up business or if they are employed, they would need to get a company there to sponsor a work permit. The other riskier option is to go on an entre pass and try for a job there but this would usually mean very long leave or resignation from your current employer. Is there another way to get there and work? Is there such a thing as migrating on a skill assessment or whatever and then using a migratnt status to keep visiting occasionally till you land a job and then resign?

Answer:
Yes, the only way to relocate to Singapore is via work permit or employment pass other than if you are a spouse of a Singapore citizen. You can secure job offers from an employment agency in your own country, newspaper ads and job websites. Emigrating to Singapore is not like emigrating to Australia, NZ, and Canada where the latter countries are open to migrants and are assessing them for their skills or family option. Thats because they need people. Singapore has limited land space, natural resources and enough population and its for these reasons , they are very selective in granting employment passes/work permits. You have a chance if your skills are specialised and are in need to supply the skills shortage like nursing, engineering, architecture and technical computer stuff. But before going to immigration, you must have an employer to sponsor you who will take care of your relocation. Just go through the ICA (Immigration Checkpoints Authority)website for further details.

This is unconventional, but if you are not married, and you have an intention to find a Singaporean partner, why not try the dating agencies? Who knows who you will end up with. But seriously, if you are looking for a job only, then you have to get an employment pass before you can come in. Otherwise, if you have the money to start up a business, that is the other way to enter. There is a difference between obtaining citizenship status and working here on an employment pass, beware of this. Think what do you want - whether you want to keep your current migrant status, or you want to start with a citizenship in Singapore.
