Any recommendations for vegetarian restaurants in Singapore?

What are must see/do in Singapore and the surrounding region?

  • My dad works in Singapore, and my mom and I are going to visit him. We'll be there for 10 days, what do you suggest we do? We like nature-tours, city-experiences (shopping, sight-seeing, cultural events etc) , history and such things. We appreciate good foods, so recommendations for interesting restaurants will also be appreciated. We are 19 and 52. My dad might join us for some of the activities. I have to be honest, I know nothing about Singapore, so basic facts would also be nice :) Also, since 10 days is a long time, we would like to travel to a neighboring country or something and stay for a while, are there any big must-sees which would be good to spend a few days on near by?

These are just some suggestions: 1. Nature tours: You can try Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve http://www.sbwr.org.sg/ 2. City experiences (shopping): Orchard Road, Suntec City, Vivo City (sight-seeing, cultural): Kampung Glam, Chinatown, Little India... visits some of the temples at these places too. 3. Good food: too many to list. But just to name a few, you can try going to Lau Pa Sat, where there are plenty of food available. Many go there to eat satay. East Coast Park has plenty of seafood restaurants. Chilli crabs is a local favourite. Fengshan hawker centre is a popular place to go in the evening for dinner/supper. Found a blog on the place here: http://hulrulto.blogspot.com/2011/05/upgrading-fengshan-hawker-centre-aka.html Fine dining at a romantic restaurant, you can try The Cliff in Sentosa 4. Region: An easy suggestion is to go to Malaysia. You can say spend 4-5 days in Singapore and another 5 in Malaysia. 2 days can be spent in Melacca (also spelt Melaka) to see the historical town. The rest of the time can be spent visitng Malaysia's capital, Kuala Lumpur, with a side trip out to Batu Caves located just outside the capital. Batu Caves http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Batu_Caves 5. Region: Alternatively, you can try flying to Bali. I haven't been there in years so I don't know how much it has changed, but i hear it is still a very nice place for a short getaway from Singapore.

If you plan on a short trip out of Singapore, you could consider a self-drive to a few Johor farms (a day trip) or an overnight trip to Malacca (Malaysia).

10 days is a long time. Singapore is clean and friendly and people speak English. Use the MRT to get around. Bring lots of money, the cost of living has been going up and alcohol in particular is expensive everywhere. The weather is HOT but people dress casually. Bring shorts, sandals and hats. 1- Shopping (Vivo and Orchard Road (ION especially). Skip Suntec City. 2- Botanical garden (don't miss the Orchid garden). 3- Catch a concert at the Esplanade. A must and you can buy tickets online ahead of time. 4- Skip Sentosa but do visit the Marina Casino and the outdoor bar at the top. There are free concerts at the outdoor theater at the Marina itself and you can catch a soccer game on the floating pitch. 5- There is a small mountain near Vivo City which has a park on top. Nice to visit at night. 6- Museum of Singapore (not the exact name) and Museum of Asian Civilizations. Museum of modern art is also nice. 7- Boat Quay and Clark Quay (at night). For further out activities: go to Malaysia (fly or drive), go to Indonesia (Ferry or fly), go to Hong Kong (a very nice 24 hour trip that you could easily stretch into 2 days). Flight time is about 2 hours. Food wise, you will want to eat at Jumbo and have some Chili crab and return to have pepper crab. Make sure you go to a Kopitiam (there are hundreds of them) and have some Laksa and some Curry me soup (spelling will vary). Don't miss lime juice and freshly pressed cane juice with lemon or line. Have some durian (you were warned) and do try the street ice cream, especially on Orchard road ($1). Go to India town for some authentic curry fish head.
