Do you think racism exists in singapore?

Answer:
Racism exist everywhere, I guess that's the common theme here & we have seen several responses to that extend. Having lived as a student and gained employment in the US, Mexico and even for a short time in China, I can tell you, racism is at a minimum in Singapore for Singaporeans regardless if they are Chinese, Malay or Indian Singaporean. And you know what, that's how it should be. The government job is to provide for its people. Do you as a nation want to be compared to the USA. Oh, I know....everyone thinks the world of them. Levis jeans, F16 jets, man on the moon, war in Iraq etc etc. But guess what folks, the great US provides more benefits for an illegal immigrant than an American national. People flood across the border, gives birth to a child, take advantage of the welfare system. A nation where they don't even have a national language. Ahhh, so you think in America they speak English?. Only in the movies. China took great pains to make Mandarin (and in India they made Hindi) the official language because they realize 'united a society stand, divided it falls'. Yet in the US, they take great pains to make English non compulsory. The only good thing about nations that preach "Freedom & Equality" (e.g USA) is they have land. Give them 20 more years and they will screw that up too. Their society demands it. I want to response to the answer posted above about the Phillipine worker not getting her fair shake. Is she even legally entering Singapore?. Believe me people, when your government protects your job security and makes the citizen feel protected, its a good thing. Ya ya, we can all take 'Humanitarian classes' but if you have been to the US & take away all the glitter it has, you can see cracks in the very fabric of its society and government. By the way, OJ got away because he was afro-america not because he was innocent...now that's racism.

What should i say? Though its a democratic country with freedom in speech, we may be sued for speaking against d country. Like theres no malay serviceman in the ministry of defence only in d civil defence and police. Only malays has the priviledge in discounted school fees. Most singaporeans look down on perm residents or china chinese employees. But if you are Americans or Europeans people will treat you extremely gd. Is that racist? its for you to find out for me to know.

It is, especially in the armed forces...

Yes, it does. One evidence is about a blogger posting racist comments on his blog. A Malay got offended and reported him to the police. The blogger got arrested for being a racist.

There are stronger laws aobut that kind of thing in Singapore than anywhere else. Get racist with someone and you'll find yourself behind bars with no formal arrst, and it'll take ages for anything like a courtcase. They dislike racism, and aren't scared to apply the law to it. If people want to get racist in private, that's another story.
