Recently there has been quite a debate from Malaysia ruling party that Malay from Singapore being marginalised and did not progress or protected like what the Malay in Malaysia does ie special right /discounts/quotos to Malay or bumi only. This issue started when your MM Lee mentioned that Chinese Malaysian are being marginalised. I as a Chinese agreed what MM Lee said, what about you on the Malay Singapore from our government?

Answer:
Hey. I'm a Malay Singaporean. I heard about MM Lee mentioning that chinese Malaysian are being marginalised.Malay Singaporeans are also being marginalised.Since young, you're made to believe that Singapore is a racial tolerant country.Of course in reality,we,minority race are treated differently by a handful lot. I had like to stress that Malaysian government treatment's of chinese Malaysian is far worse than Singapore government treatment's of Malay Singaporeans. Do you not realise that any chinese nationals could get work permit in Singapore very easily but a Malaysian who is of the Malay race could not?For example,my Malaysian aunt married my singaporean uncle and it took her 10 years to finally get singapore citizenship compared to chinese nationals who married Chinese Singaporean and could easily get citizenship in less of that time.In my opinion the Singapore government has been trying to bring in more chinese and get rid or bring in less malay into the country.Singapore was once Malay dominated but now it's chinese dominated. Why?Malay Singaporeans had to go overseas to get a job because they can't get any here. It's all given to the chinese. And more chinese immigrants are given residency too easily. We can't voice this out because we would end up behind bars. The Singaporean government is intelligent enough. They can criticise other country's government but they aren't aware that their own citizen particularly the minorities are unhappy.Believe me,I experienced lots of racism in Singapore. The Indians are worst off.I'm ashamed Singapore dared to criticise Australia of racism when it's actually happening in her own backyard. As for Malaysia,it's their right to treat the malays better because it's the Malay land just like France treating French better and China treating Chinese better,Japan treating Japanese better but in Singapore, there shouldn't be any biasness because it's a shared land.It doesn't belong to the chinese, malays nor Indians. It belongs to Singaporeans.

I am : 1. a Muslim 2. a Singaporean 3. a malay and these are ranked in order of importance. To me marginalisation occurs in every country be it the govt does it purposely or unwittingly. As part of the so called "marginalised" community in Singapore, i feel that the onus is on us to better ourselves and work around these barriers. And in the context of Singapore, i think much has been done by the government to extend assistance to the minority community. It is us that have to break the mindset and think as a Singaporean instead of a malay, chinese, indian, eurasian, etc, etc. Only by doing so then we are able to give constructive criticism without any underlying feelings or agenda. .... having said that, it would be nice to have an extra day of public holiday for hari raya, deepavali and christmas... :)

I believe we're all racists ... whether or not we openly admit. I also believe there'll always be discrepancy amongst the races. What's perhaps more important is that we learn to live as harmoniously as possible: the alternative will be disastrous. I'm Singaporean Chinese and have lived in KL for 12 years. My husband's on a work permit and I on a dependent's pass. Never once has the Malaysian government offered us permanent residency. Yes, there's the "Malaysia My Second Home" scheme but this scheme does not allow my husband to work. I've a few friends (of different nationalities) who have been married to Malaysian men for a good number of years. Again, their applications for permanent residency do not seem close at hand. Perhaps it's because they're married to Chinese and Indian Malaysians? On the subject of Singapore offering foreigners PRs, I should mention that when my British then-boyfriend (now husband) and I registered our marriage in Singapore, the official at ROM asked my partner to raise his right hand to swear (really!) that he will not take up PR just because he's marrying a Singaporean. How's that for sexism?

reading at Q & As here, if it's true, you can easily get spore PR if you are a Chinese from anywhere in the world.. on the other hand, you can easily get malaysia PR if you are from any malay ethnics or married to malay muslim.. good point to ponder.. another point, chinese malaysian have chinese schools in chinese language whereas chinese singaporean don't have any chinese school at all.. interesting.. p/s - but i wonder why an Arabic that I know cannot get malaysia PR although he is a muslim and can speak malay..

Great question, something which I've been wondering about and now I can read the truth for myself. I would like to add something to Anderson's question. Just out of curiousity, in that case, would you as a Singaporean Malay, would like to come over to Malaysia and be a permanent resident here?

I'm foreigner, married to Singaporean Malay.I should say the situation with Chinese Malaysians the same as with Malays Singaporeans.Difficult to get job if you don't speak Chinese,if you don't speak English at all,you still can be easily employed.Tell you also, example,my friend, married to Singaporean Chinese got her PR much faster than me even though our education level is the same, and i got kid, while she's not.

Yeah..Shamalay101 is right to a certain extent.. Its all about mindset.I have to say that the Singapore government have succeeded in making Malays believe that we are not being marginalised and things are all fair. Edit;Yeah..i do agree with you on the last part that Singapore is more fair in most affairs such as education etc
