18 years old!!! Domestic helpers are rare in the US and a bit difficult to get under US immigration law, but possible. If you have a child under two, then I would suggest hiring through the Au Pair Program. The program is monitored by the each nation's state department and is regulated well. The program includes access screening for you and the au pair. And allows both the consent of the hot family and au pair for specific placement, which is one year with a one year extension allowed. North Americans, Europeans, Africans, Asians, and South Americans all participate as Au Pairs and Host Families. The visa used is usuall not as a domestic helper but as a cultural exchange visa. The host pairs air fare, orientation costs, program costs, a $500 per year scholarship. The host provide room an board and necessary transportation. The host provides health insurance and 2 weeks paid vacation. The Au pair may also participate in Au Pair Activities through a local Au Pair center. In the U.S. the pay for the Au Pair is $157.95 a week, or $8,213.40 per year (regulated and not negotiated). Second year extension au pairs receive a weekly stipend of $160, or $8320 per year. The total cost for an Au Pair for one yar is about 16,000 for the first year for program costs, scholarship, airfair, allowances, salary, (excluding room and board). The benefit of the Au Pair is that they watch 1 kid or 5 kids, whatever you have.

how can you afford a domestic helper if you yourself is a minimun wage earner? you may be able to pay 500$, yes you are right its the average Filipino DH salary anywhere abroad (like singapore, hongkong, middle east) but they have diffirent living situations ,they get the money in full, they wont have bills, taxes, rent, food, its all free cuz the stay in. And how could you compare their pay in the Philippines (13-20times) you're talking about the exchange rate!! GET REAL!!!

Dude, 13 - 20x? Are you on crack? Even though wages are low in the Philippines, I don't think any employers would pay $30 / mo, unless there were a lot of other benefits included (which also cost money). In Manila, I don't think you would get off with less than $200/mo (9,000 PHP) if you add up room, food, and salary any way you break it down. Back to your question - minimum wage in the US depends on the State, and sometimes even the county. NYC is obviously higher than Lincoln, Nebraska. In Upstate New York you would be looking at something like $7.50/hr. I suppose, which would be 1,200 + / month.

Minimum wage for anyone is just that, minimum wage. In my state it has gone from $5.15 an hour to $7.15.

ha ha. there was this couple that treated a pinay illegal entry as their slave and paid her based on manila DH rates by threatening to report her. they thought they had the perfect scam. years later, the pinay sued and was awarded millions of dollars.
