Who speaks better English, a Filipino or a Japanese?

Does Martin Nievera Speak Filipino?

  • I was watching a show called ASAP, I noticed some of the hosts just never say in Tagalog?(or Filipino) Such as Martin Nievera(not sure the his name).... Or Gary V? most of time he speaks English also. Do they actually speak Filipino? or they just like speaking in English ? Or English is for upscale Filipinos? Thanks!

  • Answer:

They do know how to speak Filipino. They just speak in English because ASAP (and other ABS CBN shows) is shown in TFC (The Filipino Channel) in other countries. So other nationalities would still understand the show without needing the subtitles anymore.

They know how to speak Tagalog. They're speaking English for the sake of viewers abroad.

most of the filipino celebrities just loves to mix and match the filipino and english language , thus the so called "tag-lish"

They definitely speak Tagalog but English might be more convenient for them just because they needed to be understood by people watching both domestically and internationally through the TFC. Also, Martin Nievera was born and raised in the US, although he stayed here in the Philippines more than those times, he still kept the habit of speaking in English. It's natural for him.

Very fluent in fact.

Joeyboy

They do know how to speak Tagalog... however, probably, English is their first language, or they are more comfortable in speaking English than speaking in Tagalog... I agree with "allsmiles"...

Though they dont' speak tagalog on ASAP they do know how to speak tagalog, LOL

Lincoln

They all know how to speak the local language. But more comfortable with English, just like those in upscale families.

Martin Nievera can speak Tagalog but he is more at home with English, having lived half of his life in Hawaii.

They speak Filipino. It's just that they speak English more often than Filipino.
