Answer:
Bob at the Mindanao Blog has written quite a bit on tourism & things to do and see in Mindanao. Of late he has been keeping it close to home, as there was a dustup between a force of Filipino Marines and parties unknown that turned up tensions in the region. Generally & mostly it is safe with certain exceptions. However, I never recall seeing any mention of Mt. Apo on Bob's blog.

the last time i heard of death of mouth climbers in mt apo was when someone got drowned because he took a dip on a lake and it was freezing cold, he had hypothermia. it's certainly one place to avoid and one activity to avoid doing. other than that, i think it's unsafe to trek during rainy seasons from june-november coz trekking would be perilous. i have one suggestion, try mt kanlaon/canlaon in ****** occidental. it's an active volcano actually and trekking there has been banned the past years due to dangerous volcanic activity but i heard it's the most beautiful mountain to climb. almost 8000 feet. apo is 9000 feet +

It's safe if you have your own Body guards... i do have one last time... i carry only my water bottle and some candy... my body guard and my group did some heavy lifting...it's not bad especially your conquier all the way to the top... i have a lot of fan. enjoying the cooldiest part of the mountain... try to go the part of kidapawan city to get start for hiking.. that's the best place so that you can go to AGCO first...you can experience a lot of stuff from there ...

Safe, unless they're with Apo Hiking Society. or Safe, unless you get lost and find yourself in the MILF camp. (Moro Islamic Liberation Front) ha, not the Mother I.L.F thing. Just Avoid places with signs like: Private Property, Do Not Enter, or Beware of Dogs with two heads, or "Bawal Pumarada on Both Side" Do not Block the Ambulance. or Deep Excavation Do not Enter. or Building Closed for Demolition.
