Where is the "best" place in the Philippines for me to live?
-
I lived in the Philippines for three years, 45 minutes outside of Cebu City. I am planning to move back to the Philippines early next year and would like some recommendations where to live. I enjoyed Cebu, but would like to try a different place. Here are some of my likes: 1. Plenty of volleyball and karaoke. Karaoke is easy to find. I'd like to find a place to play indoor volleyball (as well as outdoors). I know that's asking a lot! 2. Malls. I want to be within a 30-45 minute drive of a large mall. 3. Food: I'd like to be near a large variety of restaurants. 4. Weather: I know the all of the Philippines is hot and humid, but I would like to try to find a "cooler" region. 5. Reliable Internet access: I own an Internet business and need a good Internet connection. I'd like it to be fast, but it's more important that it works consistently. I had horrible experiences with Globe and Smart last trip. 6. Not in a big city: I would like to live somewhere outside of a big city. It should be safe and peaceful. I don't want to live in a place with lots of traffic. 7. Close to the ocean: I would like the main part of town to be close to the ocean. Sandy swimming beaches would be nice. And sand volleyball. I know it's hard to find all of these qualities in the same spot. I'd just like to find the best possible mix of these. I love the Philippines, the people, and the culture, and look forward to returning. Thank you for your suggestions!

Hhmmmm pretty much much questions eh? Most of the places that I would suggest can be found in the north since you want a cooler place because the south is near the equator. 1. Choose among Quezon City in Metro Manila, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas or even Baguio City (Summer Capital of the country) 2. Only chartered cities have big malls like the SM Cebu, SM Manila, SM Baguio, SM Davao and the like. Im not saying that all cities have SM franchises. There could be malls but only smaller and less populated or attractive. 3. You can find it anywhere in the country. Wherever you go. Count on me. 4. Baguio City and nearby surrounding town, cities, provinces (northern areas) 5. I prefer you to live in good cities (not necessarily capital cities) as long as the bigger the city, the better the internet connection you would be connected. 6. Try Puerto Princesa City in Palawan in its nearby area. Palawan is like Alaska of the US not in the sense of economy, etc. but the population and the flora and fauna of the place. 7. Puerto Princesa City are close to the sea. Less traffic. Also try Boracay Island.

Try La Union...its 6-7 Hrs drive from Manila. Has a mall but not that big thou. although baguio is just 2 hrs away.. as for the beach volleyball it's always available here thanks to those big resorts..^^ its not to hot and not to cold. a lot of restaurants are available for you. and yah surfing!.. La Union has been the surfing capital of the Philippines.... try to visit this link www.facebook.com/ilovelaunion
Come to Isabela, North of Luzon. Malls are sprawling. Savemore, SM, Family Mall, NE are inviting. Ocean is kilometers drive. So are internet houses which are competitive. What is beneficial is that residential lands are cheaper and are peaceful to live in. If you like an island Divilakan in Isabela offers P1,500.00 only for 1 hectare of land.
Bataan or Zambales Try seeing this video of the country also: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gqoAwa19ELA&feature=player_embedded

Angeles City now has great housing outside the city proper, where it is nice and quiet. Karaoke – there are hundreds in the area, from little shacks to large multi room facilities. Malls – SMs, Robinsons, Ayala malls – 6 large malls within a 20km. Food – Kapampangan and Filipino cuisine to Chinese, Korean and Japanize, lots of fine dining, Italian, French etc. (You are spoiled for choice when dining out in Angeles). Weather – cooler than Manila Internet - A number of internet and phone services, Traffic - No where near as crowded as Manila and Cebu, but new one way systems messed up so traffic can be slow getting into and out of town. Ocean – 30 minutes drive down the STCLEX to Subic/Zambales And Angeles also has a good mix of locals and expats, local and expat clubs and associations
