Why do Filipinos loves rice so much?
-
Do you really eat rice 3x a day? I was born in Manila but grew up in New Jersey USA. I don't eat rice 3x a day like most filipinos. As a matter of fact I only eat filipino dishes like rice and adobo or sinigang or kare kare or beaf steak etc, at least 3x a week for dinner. The U.S is very a diverse country. There are so many different cuisines here so I mostly eat American, Chinese and Italian aside from Filipino every week. I'm just curious, why do the filipinos especially in the Philippines, eats rice 3x a day? What is the history behind that? And do you sometimes get tired off it? Is rice that cheap and thats why filipinos can afford it? And do you also eat other cusine besides filipino cusines every week like I do? I like filipino cuisines, I really do, but I don't eat rice 3x a day like you do. Like tonight, I'm having meatloaf with mashed potatos w gravy. And last night, I had chicken fettuccini alfredo (pasta). I'm just really curious to know of why so many filipinos loves rice so much by eating it 3x a day at least. lol

Answer:
What do you expect? It's an Asian country, of course they eat rice and probably not even three times a day more like maybe six times a day. So what if you eat pasta, meatloaf, chinese and etc. It's 2011 not 1978 anymore. The Philippines has access to the same food.

Rice is the staple food in the Philippines that's why people here eat rice with every meal compared to other countries who have potatoes, or bread, or pasta and noodles as their staple foods. Filipino meals just don't feel complete without servings of rice.

For the same reason Americans love bread and potatoes so much. It's what they are raised on here. If there is no rice with the meal it's only a snack here.

Because a filipino dish won't be complete without a rice, it's become a culture for filipino's to have rice, not just us filipino's but almost all in asia... the chinese, japanes, vietnamese eat rice... we considered rice to not just delicious but it gave us energy to do our work specially those that are doing hard labors. rice are not cheap, they are somewhat expensive, a kilo of a local premium rice is amounts to almost a dollar but consider that the minimum wage in the country is 10 dollar a day so rice is not cheap.. you grow up in US and the way the eating habits of the US is different from ASIA and Europe.. in the US the breakfast probably consist of milk, bread and or bacon and egg or cereals while in the philippines a typical breakfast includes a Pandesal, rice and egg and water or rice, egg or processed meat like hotdog, longanisa, corned beef or noodles and water or those silog meals... see the difference? its the culture and the way each country do things... in fact i bet if you grew up in the philippines you would not probably asked those questions...
