Is there any way where you can go "fully invisible" in YM?

  • I just came back form the philippines because of a recent death. And i want to go back so bad. I mean I YM my cousin in the Philippines. He has a webcam and a microphone and so do I, and we talk for a long time. But its not the same. My mom said we can moved down there soon so i can be close to all my titos titas my lola and my cousins. My Family made a plan that we all move into the same village and so we can be really closer to each other.. I really want to move down there. I am so unhappy in the USA. I live in California. In the Philippines I am really happy. I want to study down there. My mom said she wants to retire down there. We have a long way to go before we move down there though. We have to sell and condo then we have to save our house here with the money form the condo thats in the Philippines. And then come up with 15 Million pesos to but the house in the Philippines. My mom and Dad are Divorced and My Dad has to approve before I go and I really want to go. Any Advice?

  • Answer:

I know how you feel. I am currently in CA too & somedays I feel so homesick I just want to drop everything & go back home. But you know what, we do what we need to do, especially if you are a minor. My suggestions, finish school there first, I have no idea what level you are in right now, but finish that, be it high school, a short course or college. & then when you do get to go back, you will have that with you, aside from your dollars.

First of all slow the hell down. This is real life and you just don't make rash descisions with little merit. Sure the philippines is wonderfull and new and exciting but you seriously have to think about the bigger picture here. There is a good reason why thousands of people are flying out of there and the main reason is the economics of it all. A person in the philippines make so little compared to someone working in a developed western nation like the US. I was like you before making the Philippines the best thing in my life but reality has to set in somewhere because as nice as the Philippines is if you have already established a life in a far more oportunistic nation then my friend my only words of advice is for you to really think about this. You make 15 Million sound like alot of money and true it is to a degree it will not really last you that long. Because not only will you have to start from scratch you will have so many distant and close relatives leaching of you all the time. Thats just the way they are over there unfortunately. They look after family to much that people suffer financially from it. I don't want to give you a life story here but bottom line. Slow down and really think about your future and what is best for you at the very least. Don't rush into it otherwise things could really turn out for the worst.

This is life, there is no right advice to give sadly. I'm not sure how long you have been in the US, if it's just a short time, then it'll take you about 3 to 5 years before you even begin to feel like you have a clue why people act so differently to the way you would expect. I'm the opposite of you, I moved to the Philippines from Australia, and I missed my own country badly for a long time. Everything back home seemed to be so much better. So much so that I despised the Philippines, hated everything about it, but was trapped by circumstance. After 10 years I absolutely consider this place to be my home. I love it here, Australia seems so sterile and boring in comparison, but this isn't a mindset that comes quickly. I say give the US some time, it's an interesting place with interesting people. You'll meet others that can help fill the void. Traveling can be intoxicating, sometimes we love a place like a teenage crush - not for what it actually is, but for what our fantasy tells us it is.

If you're a U.S citizen, visit your local Philippines Embassy and see if you can qualify for dual citizenship first. This will allow you to stay longer than 6 months and acquire other residential benefits in the Philippines while also maintaining your U.S. citizenship - best of both worlds. I got mine 3 yrs ago for $25, I believe now it is $50+. 15 million pesos is currently equivalent to about $370,370 (40.5). Your family will live very wealthy in the Philippines as long as you have several profitable businesses to keep you successful and chart/regulate/monitor the flow of your money carefully. College tuition costs will continue to skyrocket above $25,000+ over next few decades in the U.S. while your tuition costs for prestigious colleges in Philippines could already be paid off (including paid-off Home/Car loans). Not to mention the ability to employ staff to help with everyday chores and errands around the home (and business). However, if the Philippines economy continues to improve you'll need more U.S dollar to sustain 15 million pesos. A good strategy may be to plan to buy a huge lot, build a mansion, or buy a house now while the rates are low. Many Filipinos and foreigners are also investing in the Philippines while offshore foreign workers (OFW) and relatives continue to pour and send money remittance back home boosting the Philippines economy. In the last year and a half, the rate was as high as 54 and now it's 40; if you do it later, and the economy improves another 10 points, it will cost another $121,433 to match 15 million pesos. Good luck!

If you really want to come back here in the Philippines you need to talk to your parents about it, explain it to your mom and dad how much you want to live and study here. Tell them how you feel.
