Is it true Nurses make 6,500,000 a year?
-
I recently asked why almost ALL girls here become nurses. I was told it's because they make 6,500,000 a year! Is this really true? In the USA, they make way less. My mom was a nurse. We were so poor, we could barely eat. If this is the case, I will give up my MBA for a nursing certificate and make boku!

Answer:
That is not true. The truth is nurses here can't even earn 30 thousand pesos a month. They earned less, just enough to buy a days meal and to pay their electric bill. 6,500,000 a year? I think if that happens, everyone wants to be a nurse and no one wants other job than being a nurse.

no, they don't make $6,500,000 a year. They do however get obscene amounts of overtime, and in what is mostly a union job (Local Healthcare & Hospital Workers Union) the pay is solid. Often they'll work 4X12 hour shifts and take 3 days off, which means they're getting 8 X 4 X $40+/hr (for a licensed RN) and 4 X 4 X $60 (time+1/2) - so in 4 days they make ~$2250/week with 3 days off. My friend's wife is an RN and this is about what she makes, but it depends on years in and a few other factors (e.g. specialist nurses can make even more, but may work fewer hours or get less OT). In general figure $40/hr plus $60/hr overtime. If they work the above schedule, that works out to an average of $46/hr, which comes out to about $97K annually. That said they also get full medical & dental, plus vacation and retirement plans. However they're also required to pay union dues. Exactly how much I'm not sure. But generally speaking $100,000 a year for a seasoned, licensed RN is about right - and since they're working 4 days a week that's a very solid salary indeed. It's why when they go on strike I kind of scoff a bit at the claim of "unfair conditions" and complaining about the "long hours" that they choose to work in order to take advantage of the OT and get 3 off days. hope this helps.

Nurses make good money in the USA. If your mom was poor it wasn't because she didn't make enough money but because she didn't know how to manage money.
Wages are VERY poor in the Philippines ! Wages in the US are far higher. That's why so many Filipinos move here. So they can send money back home.

zdood and vinegar are correct. Further, my wife is also a registered nurse in the U.S., has many years in her job and a department head of a hospital, earning $115,000 plus annually without overtime. Your source of information on the nursing profession is very inaccurate. Unless your mom was making entry level wage, and your dad was unemployed, it's hard to believe you had nothing to eat. BTW, the French word you used is spelled beaucoup, my friend.

Here in Australia mate the average starting pay for a qualified, registered nurse would begin at around $4000-00 dollars a month. One thousand dollars a week, pretty much an average type pay here. That, at today's exchange rate would be, per year, P 2, 400, 000 Two million four hundred thousand pesos. And as I said, to start. As she gained experience and more qualifications her pay would increase. My wife has a Pinay friend who is a Theatre in charge nurse at a major hospital. Her pay is in the region of 3000 dollars a week. This is normal. The whole thing is that Filipinos get fixed on these amounts and do not realise that 1000 dollars a week is a low wage here. They convert it back to pesos and think --that person is rich. It costs nearly a thou a week to live here. 1st world countries pay well to hire the best but 1st world countries are also very expensive to live in. Paying a rent of 500 dollars a week which is 21250 P--a week, for a 3 bedroom house is nothing. So, who do you know spending that kind of money there just to rent a house for one week ? Not many. Now you know why so many Pinays want to go to Aussie and America and western countries to work as nurses. We have just done our yearly tax returns. The wife and myself, just average workers, she grossed 58-000 and mine was 67500 for a total of 125 500 dollars. In pesos--a bit over 5 million . Huge there, average and not so much here.We , I can very much assure you are a LONG WAY from ever being rich.

FOR US NURSES HERE IN SAUDI ARABIA WE EARN 35-50 PESOS A MONTH . SO MULTIPLY 50,000 PESO TIMES 12 EQUALS 600.000 PESOS ONLY FOR ONE YEAR .

If I go by your other question, you are shortchanging them by 50% here. If they earn 1,000,000 a month, then that means 12,000,000 a year. Go back to your Math teacher.
