How to set up surround sound speakers to a TV?

surround sound set up

  • I have a Vizio 50" Plasma HDTV with 3 HDMI outputs.  Presently I have my DirectTV HD/DVR box hooked up to HDMI 1 and my Sony Blu-Ray player hooked up to HDMI 2.  I just got a Panasonic Surround Sound Set (DVD player/receiver and 6 speakers) that I want to hook up so the surround sound works with both the TV audio and the Blu-Ray audio.  There is one HDMI output on the Panasonic DVD player/Receiver.  How do I connect it so all sound from TV and Blu-Ray goes through the Panasonic receiver? I have one open HDMI slot on the TV, and an open Optical spot on everything else.    Thank you for your assistance.

  • Answer:

hello Patrick, The HDMI out on your Panasonic is for DVD player on your Panasonic and you should connect it to your TV HDMI in. The 3 HDMI on your TV are "IN" and not "OUT". I am assuming you have an Optical port on your Panasonic. If you do, then you need a Optical "HUB". This hub will have 3"IN and 1 "OUT" You need to connect optical out of your hub to your Panasonic optical "IN". Then you connect Optical out from your TV and Blue Ray to the 2 optical ins on your optical hub. Thanks.
