What embassies have an educational branch within it?

Are we already doing this overseas with our embassies?

  • I am not sure how many Philippines embassies we have at present world wide. Some says we have embassies in other parts of the world that do not even have Filpinos working there. I do not have the complete list of Philippines embassies but this is not what my question is all about. By utilizing our Philippines embassies abroad particularly in the Middle East by show casing our Philippines products and Filipino manufacturer in advertising and eventually selling it through the auspice of our very own Philippines embassies. Having a particular place inside the embassy or lobby where foreigners or the host of the country can ask for information or look for a particular items that are proudly Philippine made that he or she can introduce in their home land. We want to sell our Philippines products and ingenuity so why not use these embassies for that purpose. Is this already done? Like in the US most of our embassies there are occupying huge Federal buildings for their own use, why not give a small place for our Philippine products so that we can sell our very own right there in the embassy. Some of you said you are proud of being a Filipino so why not show it. What do you think?

  • Answer:

I think we have about 66 Embassies worldwide. We do have Commercial Attaches as well who have the following functions (from the Philippine Embassy in the US - http://www.philippineembassy-usa.org/Embassy.htm ) Office of the Commercial Attaché – promotes exports and investments in coordination with the Economic Section; facilitates trade projects and opportunities; develops markets for Philippine export products; monitors for and reports to the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) on US trade and investment policies that can affect Philippine trade to the US. Office of Agricultural Attaché – Coordinates availment of PL 480 program, wheat grants under Section 416 and USDA export credit programs and guarantees; monitors US agricultural policies that will impact on Philippine agriculture; promotes Philippine agricultural exports and bilateral agricultural programs; promotes market development for RP agricultural products; represents the Philippines in various meetings and conferences on agriculture held within the North American region. What you are suggesting is already in place BUT like most good ideas not being implemented in all our embassies. Some of the reasons may be: 1. Cost of office space to allocate the display of Philippine products. 2. Lack of government support for Philippine exporters. 3. The products may not pass international standards. 4. Lack of Trade agreements with that host country. 5. Lack of Philippine technology to produce/source the products needed.

Philippine embassies located world wide are not sari-sari store where you can display broom stick(walis ting ting), coconut husk(lampaso), corn husk, barong tagalog, and patadyong. Their sole purpose is for political use and not promoting Philippines products.

Empress of Trolls

That's pretty much the whole point of embassies. Every embassy will have a trade attaché.

I admire your being creative at times. Really!. Who could ever thought of making the Philippine Embassy whose main diplomatic mission, like any other embassy, is to protect its nationals while residing or working on the host country. Making it a cheap showroom to promote Philippine products like the 'bahag' 'sunggka' 'bagoong alamang' will make it a laughing-stock rather than a revered representation of the republic, and that my friend, is an idea, that only can be conceived from a brain of Deliverance. Hooray!

I have recently visited our embassy at Riyadh, and saw no such displays. Of course, it is entirely possible the displays could be in the upper levels, or elsewhere, where I felt, is out of bounds for us contract workers. We are restricted to a very small corner in the embassy, those of us Filipinos who are renewing passports or have some other documentation problem. To go and try to mingle in areas that are not meant for us humble OFWs are frowned upon by the embassy staff. It is as if we could be treated as psycho cases, playing "role deviants". I have this traumatic experience. I went out the boxed space, into the greater lobby, and asked for consular officers. The staff immediately ganged up on me, threatened me that "if this were the Philippines, I would be handed over to the NBI", and treated like a criminal. But your idea is nice. It was also the idea of Dr.Jose Rizal. To make the country known to the world. A noble idea, that one. I just wish that the Embassy would show this nobility by first showing affection for their countrymen, by making us welcome, instead of being treated like "the enemy".

It would be a better idea to suggest opening shops or kiosks in airports, or in shopping malls across the world? Maybe your idea comes from thinking that shops in the embassy would not have to pay rent or something? but if a shop in an embassy takes up space that is needed by the embassy, then the embassy may need to rent some more office space someplace else, so there is no saving of rent? There are lots of asian markets in the USA, that typically have just a couple filipino products, and are mostly ethnic chinese foods. There are lots of Thai food restaurants, a few Korean, lots of Chinese and Japanese restaurants, almost no filipino restaurants to be found. A filipino themed kiosk chain could be very popular and successful, especially if it featured coconut, mango, and banana shakes or smoothies (main export produce of Philippines).

Hey, I would suggest if you don't know the number of embassies in the world at this moment. Why don't you stop eating your hamburger or chips. use your "LOPTOP" as you call it and do some simple searching on one of the various search engines. Since your such an expert on everything I'm surprised you don't know the exact number. Instead of asking us novices online. why don't you use your time more productively and make a phone call to your nearest government office or an email to the embassy and asked them. I know the answer to that. Because you know they wouldn't waste their time insulting someone just for the sake of answering a question. By the way when you insult a westerner. Make sure you can say it properly and not butcher our native language. We don't go to The Philippines and rubbish your native language or country. We respect and idolise people who like to help one another.
