Bossa Nova?
-
Hi! My friend sent me the bossa nova version of the song "prinsesa" done by 6cyclemind. Are there any other 80's or 90's songs revived in Bossa Nova? And who are the artists? I know Sitti. I already have her songs. Hope you can help me with this guys coz ive been out of the country for years now that's why i don't know what are the latest songs in the Philippines now. Thank you!

Answer:
I am Brazilian and I was raised in Rio de Janeiro, the land of bossa nova. The name of this song might be PRINCESA. I don't recall now if I have heard it, but I can suggest 3 great singers of a new generation of Bossa Nova: Bebel Gilberto, Maria Rita and the Grammy awarded Ceu. You can hear some samples : http://www.amazon.com/Tanto-Tempo-Remixes-Bebel-Gilberto/dp/B00005Q6OD/ref=sr_1_8/104-4789992-9033562?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1174805823&sr=1-8 , http://www.amazon.com/C%C3%A9U/dp/B000GIWH16/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/104-4789992-9033562?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1174805896&sr=1-1 , http://www.amazon.com/Maria-Rita/dp/B0001O3Y5S/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2/104-4789992-9033562?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1174805947&sr=1-2 My favorite is Bebel Gilberto, I have all of hers CD's. Her latest song is called Angaju.

I don't know what the bossa craze is all about, and although I appreciate bossa nova music, I prefer original compositions in bossa than revivals, worse, those taken from another genre. There's one bossa singer, Sofia, who I prefer more than Sitti cuz she has a more soothing voice. Also, trying looking up on Agot Isidro, she's also into bossa nowadays (in fairness, her voice sounds great with bossa than pop)

First, Bossa Nova is appreciated in the Philippines because remember, the country is a "latin" country and the people like these kinds. But the truth is it's not a new thing because in the past eras, Filipinos were already fans of latino music from salsa to bossa nova - the Gilberto/Getz era. And because of bossa nova, jazz is easily appreciated. Also, in the past, Filipino pop/rock music had elements of our hispanic-Filipino roots. Latino but always Filipino, especially during the "Manila Sound" era. Some still do today like the pinoy rock bands, but not like before. I hope the acts sound more Filipino more and more. Sitti is one of the country's leading bossa nova artists, and you can see she is at par with Bossa Nova from Brazil. It's natural. But I suggest to take advantage of the many Astrud Gilberto/Stan Getz compilations available in the stores. They are the real deal.
