How can a grocery store in the Philippines opened its 100th store where the economy is always terrible? It always amazes me where a company like puregold can create chains of businesses nationwide and I guess makes money..? But when I tell people I will be opening my first business in the Philippines, a lot of them has said to me, DON'T! The economy is terrible! Your not gonna make any money there! I wonder how puregold and other people have done well in business with more then 1 branches?

Answer:
Think about Walmart. They are so large and can buy so much at once that they can afford to sell it the public cheaper than a smaller company can buy it for resale. Selling for cheaper wins for the store and in this economy even better. You open a store and you can only buy a store worth of stuff and it will cost you a lot more than a huge corporation pays. In addition of one store loses money, they have other stores to make up for the difference.

Because large companies are eating up small businesses, eliminating competition. In addition, Puregold serves as somewhat a supplier to the many small sari-sari stores in the philippines.

In addition to Tasm's answer, Puregold has targeted the "mass market," the majority of population that has very little to spend, and the "mini-businesses" such as mini groceries and vendors who would resell their business. Puregold has identified, tackled, and resolved one of the main issues why business are not booming here, they made their products reasonably priced and affordable to the mass. So if you are planning to open a business here, make sure you target the majority of the population. Do in-depth studies as putting up a business is, indeed, hard to maintain here.
