When will Target have the 75% off Christmas items?

Will you cut down your Christmas spending?

  • In the U.S., 75% of those polled say that they are cutting down their shopping budgets for Christmas by either buying less quantity or buying less expensive gifts, food or other Christmas items. This seems logical because the U.S. is the epicenter of today's world economic crisis. Is this trend on lowered Christmas spending the same with Fillipinos or maybe Filipinos love Christmas so much and will continue to spend no matter what?

  • Answer:

Not this Christmas. Saw Winnie Monsod this morning at Unang Hirit and she advised us not to scrimp on our expenses this Christmas. Why? We are at the most crucial time in the history of our country's economy when spending less means less demand for products which, in turn, means less production. Less production means the manufacturing company has no alternative but to lay off some of its production/factory workers. Less production also means less revenues. Whereas, if one continues to spend, there is a probability that the economy will stay stable with all the production in full swing. Of course, it follows a long economic cycle: earn, spend, goes back to the manufacturers, give employment to workers and revenues to the government then, back to earn again. Now is not the time to save, she said. She should know, she is an articulate economist. Last year, she said, was the right time to save...for now, for the present when financial constraints are at the uppermost not only in the country but globally as well.

It depends on who I will spend the money on. I love to pamper my loved ones so for my family and closest friends, I bought them the gifts they want. I even indulged my favorite younger brother by buying him a new pair of Nike shoes and a JanSport backpack. For my mom, I bought her her favorite perfume. For colleagues and not-so-close pals though, I admit that I had to cut down my budget. Last year, it was Php150 - 200 per person for trinkets or goodies and I bought my gifts for them at the mall. This year, I cut it down to a maximum of Php100 per person. I also scoured places for good finds and I was so happy to find really good stuff in Dapitan, for less than Php100! As for myself, no expensive techie gadget for me this Christmas (last year, I bought a new digicam). I'd rather save my money.

No I won't cut down budget for Christmas presents but I'll hunt more for the best deals, cashbacks, rebates, and I will price match more items instore and online to get the best bang for my money. I already scanned all the early bird specials this coming Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

You can cut down your expensive gift-giving by creating a personalized gifts for your loved-ones. it's much sweeter and valuable because its your own hand-made with love. And if you can simplify your christmas dinner by preparing simple but tasteful foods. And if last year, you serve 5-9 dishes, you can cut and prepare food into 3-5 dishes. just don't forget the dessert

i'm a filipino living in the US. yes, we always cut down our spending. we don't decorate our house for christmas, we don't do noche buena and media noche - we just have a special family dinner at 8PM and then we go to bed early and for the fireworks at midnight, we wake up the kids and drive to Embarcadero near Seaport Village to watch the fireworks and then go home and drink hot chocolate before bed. for the christmas gifts, we just buy our 3 kids their christmas wish and that's it. we don't buy other people gifts, that's our way of avoiding debts and regrets. we work to save money for our family, to give our kids what my husband and i didn't have and enjoy when we were kids. This is our christmas, a little selfish maybe but it keeps us from going bankrupt.

We'll Continue to have a decent dinner with family members, exchange gifts (even of very less value). Encourage each other to hope for the best and be ready to brave the future.

no balikbayan box this year, I would rather send money for Noche Buena, and give each of my kamag-anak a dollar bill, depending on what age you are and how close related you are to me...

Yes, whether we like it or not we will also be affected by the financial crisis.

I would definitely pay cash instead of using a credit card and I'll stick to my budget.
