Japanese flag vs. Philippines flag?
-
I personally think the Philippines flag looks cooler. Like the other former Spanish colonies, and other powerful nations(Cuba, Puerto Rico, Bahamas, Czech Rep., East Timor, Djibouti, Jordan, Mozambique, South Sudan, Sudan, Palestine, atbp) However, I had one question. The Japanese flag is the rising sun. The Philippines is the setting sun. The rising sun is a symbol of power, light, heat, learning(en-light-enment), hope, progress, etc. What does the Philippine setting sun represent? Thanks.

Answer:
Can you give a source that the sun on the Philippine flag was setting? All Filipinos knew that was also a rising sun. Here's my source: The sun represents the dawning of a new era of self determination. http://www.crwflags.com/fotw/flags/ph.html edit: And how could that be a setting sun if the sun's rays (the 8 provinces) were uprising against Spain?

It has to be a "rising sun". I quote in part what used to be the English version of our national anthem: Land of the morning Child of the sun returning With fervor burning They do our souls adore.

In the Philippine flag, the Sun which has eight rays represent the country's first group of provinces that started the 1896 Philippine Revolution against Spain; and at each vertex of the triangle is a five-pointed golden yellow star, each of which, represent the country's 3 main islands, Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. This flag can indicate a state of war if it is displayed with the red side on top.
PHILIPPINE FLAG SETTING SUN MEANS TRANQUILITY . PEACE AND HOPE THAT AFTER THE REST WILL RISE A BETTER TOMORROW .

Each country has their own description, illuminati in italian to paraphrase the meaning and purpose having a flag to stand to that particular country. The citizen some attach importance others just shrug their shoulders after all what does it mean to everyone if there's a flag or not especially if what represents is not what it should be. Republic of so and so doesn't mean that at all. Your question about the flag in the Philippines you would be lucky if you find 1million out of 99 million knows what their flag stands for.Myself I know that the stars which is the trace of American flag represents those main islands of the Philippines,In the states represents each state, but in the Philippines, the main islands. The sun, i don't think there's specific explanation since everybody knows Philippines is located in the sunrise after Australia. No historical symbol that can be said about the flag. I know that czech copied the shape of Philippine flag with one african country and Cuba, so it shows that it is just among the fantasy of those whose leading the country, no important significance.
