Which is reliable and faster wifi connection: Sun Cellular vs PLDT wifi vs SkyBroadband wifi vs wi-tribe?
-
Any suggestions for a wifi service to use in the Philippines? I'm currently using Sun Cellular. Decent speed for 800 pesos per month (my cousin convinced me to subscribe to Sun (over Globe) because of the price. I live in Cubao, Quezon City, Philippines so I'm wondering if there is any wifi services that are better than Sun. Sun goes up to 3.5 mbps I think (I'm on postpaid plan) but I live on the second floor of a residential building and my room is surrounded by walls and wifi signals are everwhere so my wifi speed isn't that great. Maybe an average of 50 up to 300 kbs. Decent speed but not fast. I don't really need tech support. I just want good speed for a good price.

globe has a better signal
obviously ZTE isn't a local ISP. they're a Chinese firm supposed to upgrade the Philippine government's connectivity until some politicians came in and overpriced it for reasons an idiot wouldn't understand. ... and i don't get what you mean by "wifi" because it's too general. Sun doesn't have "wifi", they have a 3G Broadband service that's only worth something if you get an HSDPA signal. their "up to 3.5 mbps" is a lie. i use Sun for 3G (postpaid) and it doesn't even reach 100 kbps on peak hours standing next to a Sun Cellular tower. PLDT has DSL. they're a proven service but for 3000 pesos a month, you sure as hell should be getting consistent 3 mbps but you'll only get less than 1.5 mbps. it even gets worse on the cheaper plans. SkyBroadband is cable Internet. meaning you'll have to find out if your place can have SkyBroadband and if your neighbors are also using SkyBroadband (because if they are, it'll just be as slow and unreliable as any Internet here). Wi-Tribe uses 4G Wimax, that's very alien to me but i've heard there's not much difference from 4G and 3G at least in the Philippines, those who have gotten Wi-Tribe are somehow disappointed. google it. *edit* the bottom line, there's no such thing as a fast and reliable "wifi" connection in the Philippines. you just have to get one that fits your budget and satisfies your needs. if you'll just be browsing facebook all day, Wi-Tribe and probably Sun is enough. but if you will be needing a good-enough connection to view streaming videos or play online games (and money isn't a problem), get the best PLDT or SkyBroadband available.
